My first set of tools :D
on: January 04, 2013, 03:04:40 PM
I was working on a project in my workshop and was searching for some parts and stumbled onto these. My first tools i got when I was something like 6 years old :D (Yes, I was allowed to play with "real" sharp tools at that age, the horror :ahhh ) I have to find the pliers though that were in this set. I know I've seen them somewhere. It brought back some fun memories. Do you have your first tools too? When did you start crafting your first projects?

My first tools were my first SAK, a Victorinox Camper that I still have.  It was my go to tool for everything for years, when I was working in watch repair to when I worked maintenance to when I worked security to when I worked as a driver and has been used for everything from food prep to emergency surgery, from fixing guns to car repairs.

I was well into my 20's when I started to get "normal" tools as I just used my father's for most things.

I had kiddie tool set too when I was about 8 or something  I can remember horrifying my father when he caught me using the mallet and chisel for trying to carve a housebrick  No one had told me there was a difference between chisels for wood and chisels for stone

I got my first real tools at 13, though i had a leatherman or gerber on my belt at about 8.  My folks bought me a craftsman toolbox with a combo wrench set, screwdriver set, and socket set, all craftsman.  I still have everything and use it all.  A couple of the screwdrivers have been upgraded through warranty but everything else is there.

I love those Nikola, great set for a kid :D

I was allowed to use my stepdad's stuff which was fairly comprehensive so never had my own at that kind of age.

I went to carpentry/joinery college at 18 and had a full set of decent tools when I qualified form there. Still got nearly all of them as I look after them and keep them away from electricians :ahhh

I had a similar, small but real, set in my youth too, with saws etc... I have no idea whether they were lost, broken or given to someone else...
I still have my first screwdriver though, Japanese "Champion" ; good as new and the best philips I have, or have had. It's next to me..  :D

I have 2 pieces left from my original set :(. The saw and a wooden mallet. I still use the saw as the size is good for small projects and it's still sharp :)
If I remember correctly, wait, what was I saying?

I think if you gave something like this to a 4yo today the do-gooders would try and have you locked up as an unfit parent.

I think you have to be 18 today to use a pencil sharpener. ;)
