.....and done:

Top scale in translucent Ruby; the bottom scale stays standard red until I decide about a complementary color.

Yeah, thanks sawman!   I too like the yellow the best but I do like the blue sapphire ones too.  I guess they would be my second fav.  I try to pick ones that will show up if dropped outside whether it is the summer or winter!  :)

Nice white scales! I just bought a white Compact because I liked the white in the picture. I hope it convinces in person as well.

I like the combo tool of the Yeoman over the opener layer, but I do also like having a small blade.  I rarely use a can opener and even the combo tool and opener layer is getting rarely necessary because I've got other tools at home and tools in my vehicle.

Now I have thoughts on building an Explorer with a large serrated blade and small blade.  Maybe even remove the opener layer completely. ... A Yeoman with a large serrated blade and a small pen blade and no combo tool.

Lately my explorer has been living in my EDC bag.  It still see's a fair bit of use, but not as much as I'd like.  I might try pocket carry again, but the four layer Vic's are just too thick for me.  I prefer a narrower profile for pocket carry.

Time for me to join the club!

I got the Explorer due to it's unique layer of the inline philips and magnifying glass.  I could have been good with a Ecoline Climber but I couldn't say no to 1) magnifying glass in a 4-layer SAK 2) inline philips 3) black, Plus scales 4) eyeglass driver

Although honestly, after signing the credit card bill with the pen, I'd rather use the 58mm pen versus the scales version...

Old, gray mag glass, scissors with screw, but already with the hook, should make my newest one a 1990-92 Explorer. Bicolor plus scales retrofitted.

I have a nice Explorer story from a couple of nights back. I was breaking down some furniture for a nun we know who is moving abroad. Managed to do everything with my newly-acquired Vic Spirit and a hammer but one shelving unit had about twenty screws, so I got out my Explorer to compare it's philips with the Spirit's. At this point the nun spots it and says 'Oh, that's the same as mine' and promptly produced an Explorer from a thin leather sheath in her pocket!

Had fun showing her the differences between her model (newer magnifying glass, standard scales) and mine (older style magnifier and plus scales). She immediately saw the usefulness of the mini driver as she said she's always having to try and adjust her glasses. Obviously I had to give it to her.

Who knows, might turn out to be my get out of jail free card at the pearly gates.  ;)

Here's a funny thing though, why am I reluctant to take the mini driver from my Spirit's corkscrew attachment (which I doubt I will ever use) and put it in my Explorer (which I probably will)?  ???

Why not just buy spares?
I put the mini driver into all my SAKs that have corkscrews, I also put stainless steel pins in SAKs that have the hole for them but didn't come with them.
You just never know when you might appreciate having these things available.

Just do the trick where you put the pen under the hook. Works much better like that.

I bought spares and have them in all my SAK corkscrews...don't use the mini CS much, but I like having it available!

Me too
This is my first 4 layer with no hook, and I don't miss it. I love the extra snap the scissors have on this one.
