I see some redundancy. I guess there aren't enough unique tools, right?

Any problem with the pins flexing on that beast?

I can just imagine all those little leaf springs under tension like that with all those tools, such a delicate balance...someone sneezes and it explodes spectacularly. Something that small, that's true SAK surgery.

Ya I thought I saw 2 of the same scissor and 2 blades the same, or are they subtlely different?  Im not an expert on my 58mm tools so I dont really know?  I figured you had to reuse some to have different back tools in that same layer?

One pair of scissors is peened, the other has a screw. The knife blades with the same shape has the nail nick on different sides. That's the differences I spotted, at least.

I really need to ask someone to make one for me.

I have no experience making SAKs let alone 58mm 1.5mm peened pins.

I think you're talking about the clear plastic end of the USB drive. It is also the key-ring attachment point.

There are no duplicate tools, but some subtle variations
Well spotted with the screw and rivet scissors. Other subtle pairs are Nail cleaner and SD tip nail-files, SD nail-file and ruler (look the same from the back), the three combo tools are 1; flat blade without wire stripper notch 2; flat blade with wire stripper  3; Phillips with wire stripper.

I have gone slightly different to the original SAAM Monster58 with the pen scales as a middle layer and keeping the original front scales to retain the tweezers. Also my flash drive is a 8GB slimline one rather than a 256MB fatty.

The divot tool was hardest to find, I've only seen 2 Caddys on eBay and missed the first one.

It's going to work with me today so people can laugh at it

Yep,  there is something cool/fun about impractically fat tools.  Imagine if this little bad boy wasn't double sided!!

How did peening go with the plastic scale and the USB ring in the middle of it? I bet that was a light touch and then some.

If you ever need help with designing a T&T layer or even a flashlight layer I would be happy to help. It's not that hard.

How did peening go with the plastic scale and the USB ring in the middle of it? I bet that was a light touch and then some.

With the Pen scale I pushed some spare bushings into the holes in the scales to give a little more strength.  I had a few spare, I broke down six knives to make this one.
And the USB drive comes with brass bushings on three of the pins.

As far as difficulty of assembly, no worse than putting together a Rambler and you need a light touch to peen any 1/16 pins so this wasn't really much different.

Thanks, I do have a Midnight Manager in the mail and when that gets here I will replace the temporary red back scale with the Ruby LED scale off that. I will lose the toothpick, but I have never had much use for that anyway.

As far as custom made tools/layers go, I'll probably stick with Stock Vic' parts on this one, it's kind of the whole point... All (or as many as I can find) of the 58mm tools in one knife. Or I would have shoehorned the Awl and Saw off the Bonsai Farmer in there too.

It would be pretty great if Vic made even more scaled down pliers, even wenger style slip joint pliers.

I decided to break down an old ratty Classic SD today because of this thread...those little things are fiddly for sure, but once you figure out how the springs work, you can see the genius of the design. Now if I can learn to drill a bit better in order to save some bushings, I'll be sitting pretty. I reassembled it and ended up peening it directly to the liners. It was a little touch and go, but it came out decently.

@Metro - that would be a good idea. I love SAK pliers, though 58mm pliers would be more like little forceps than anything. Still, they'd be handy little buggers I'm sure.
