Subscriptions or whatever you call it.
on: March 03, 2013, 01:40:03 AM
On other forums you can subscribe to a thread without posting on it. Can you do that here? Also , where do I look to see all the threads I am subscribed to? Thanks

I think you can.  Its not a feature I use so I'm not sure how it works.  Someone should be along shortly to give you a better answer.

Bookmarking & Notify on the header of each post is about the only way I know of.

I kind of works, but only for the mobile app Tapatalk.

On top of the thread there is a button Notify. It's the same as subscribe and will show up under the subscribed thread in Tapatalk, but if you press the "Show new replies to your posts." in desktop view the thread you haven't actually replied to, but just requested notification, will not show up, even if they have new replies. You can view your subscribed thread via this link, but it isn't the best solution. (you can also set up to receive email notifications there)

http://forum.multitool.or...profile;area=notification

You can also bookmark a thread you find interesting for future viewing, But this also won't make it pop up in the new replies link. It just makes it easier to find later.

I generally tend to post something in a thread that interests me, be it just a :tu: or "thanks for the information", or just "subscribed for updates".

On a related note, can you unsubscribe from a thread that you do not want to follow any more?

Have asked that one before. Don't think there is.

Do keep hoping though. Some I like to comment on but no one replies to the them anyhow. Is more of a post repository that I rarely even read myself - makes me hungrier.

"Notify" becomes "Unnotify" allowing you to unsubscribe, and go into "My Bookmarks" to be able to delete bookmarks you no longer wish to follow. Easy.

I do not have any bookmarks.

What I meant was to stop getting these threads when I press  "Show new replies to your posts"

of course, there's no way to unsubscribe from all your posts... that'd be silly.

There are some threads that I may have posted something a few years ago, that I am not really interested in. It is not likely someone will comment on my post either, so there should have been a way to stop seeing them every time.

Think it is more of specific threads that are no longer of interest that he & others would like to have an option to stop being notified about - when having previously posted there prior.

no.

Guess it works. Bookmarked. Pressed Notifiy, then Unnotify. Odd method but it seems to worked. Which means to not be notified about this page, after posting, will have to go through that process again?

I have all notifications disabled in my profile by default, I bookmark threads of interest, and check "My Bookmarks" to see which threads have new posts, if I decide to not follow it any longer, I delete it from there. I rarely use the "new replies to my posts" link, but sometimes check that way too.

Oh well. Guess that's a "no" or uncheck replies globally.  :pok:

there is no way to remove something from showing in "Show new replies to your posts."... that would be ridiculous. Mark it as read and move on. Notifications/subscriptions (the original topic) is what I just explained. And yes, you are likely to get emails if you click "Notify".

I strongly suggest you investigate the Notifications section of your profile

Why?  If you make a post 2, 3 , 10 years ago on something that interested you a tiny bit at the time it does not mean you will be interested in all replies in that thread for the rest of your life.  Maybe the only way is to have that post deleted, but that will affect the whole thread.

That link is not a subscription... it is a link to ALL your posts that have replies. it does not notify you... you have to manually click on that link and it spits out a list. If you are getting notifications, it is because you have chosen this feature, not because the link has imposed it on you.

Learn to use bookmarks. I think this is what you would prefer/are looking for.

I am not getting any notifications; I would have liked to have been able to occasionally "remove" from my post list some of the threads I posted in and stop them from appearing on my "show replies" link.

Obviously that is not possible, yet.

I know that there are threads I've posted in previously that I have little to no interest in at a later date.  However ignoring them from my Show new replies to your posts list is not a problem and I simple hit mark as read.  Not exactly taxing IMO. ;)

+1

also at the bottom of the page there is a Mark ALL messages as read in addition to the selective one...
