Flickering? Are you sure you did not put in strobe mode?
Seriously, I will test it after nightfall. If the LED lasts longer then the bulbs they used when I was a young, I will be more then happy. One did not buy a spare bulb for a Solitaire. One bought a box of 10. For a week.
I got the light as a backup/emergency light, and mostly just because I used the original one on many great adventures as a kid.

yyyyeah, mine's been very unreliable, so it's not just lying in a box, collecting dust. I turn it on and in a while it turns off, or it doesn't turn on unless shaken.

Isn't MagLite giving lifetime manufacturing warranty anymore? They used to?

Wellllllll, honestly, I didn't know that. Never contacted them to ask about that. I just read feedback on Amazon, too and there were lots of people with the same issue, so I assumed it was something... normal.

I just bought it today. In daylight I see no issue.  I will use it when I go water the terrace plants tonight and let you know how it goes.  :salute:

I just went to water the plants, I got a lot of potted plants on the roof terrace, watering them all takes well over 10 minutes. I used the Solitaire to light my way, and I am actually impressed with it! No flickering at all as reported by N_N_R - but a steady light. It does not compare to having the artificial sun of the M3R, but it's emitting more then enough white light to do the task at hand. I doubt I could have done this with the incandescent version? The focus feature seems overrated, and to me this is an on/off light. Turn on to focus point. that's it. It gives around 10 meter throw. What I miss is a clip, so I could attach it to my cap. Maybe I can find a clip that fits? Overall, happy I picked up this light.

Glad you like it :)) I was also impressed and loved it at the beginning. I also like how elegant it is.

Mine is exactly the same. It started acting about after about 2-3 months carry, at 5 months I've stopped carrying it because it's so bad.

I guess I have to wait and see. I made an exception in buying this, I have not used any MagLites for years, and my go to flashlight brand is Led Lenser. I have not had any issues whatsoever with any of the 6-7? lights I have been using in the last 10 years. My oldest, a V2, although not the most powerfull one , is still going strong.

I got a Solitaire LED for my birthday last year (in August) from my wife and kids.  I've been using it, along wit my Led Lenser P3 in my EDC setup and it has not failed me yet.

Before I got it the Led Lenser P3 was my most used light, but now I prefer the Solitaire LED.  It gives a more usable light than the P3, the light of the P3 is very "bluish" while the one of the Solitiare is more yellow and warmer.  It's also quite a bit smaller than the P3, and looks very nice.

And untill now I haven't experienced any flickering or other problems, and I often use it to read a book while I'm lying in bed, so it's used for extended periods, going from 15 minutes to 2 hours (depending on when I'm starting to fall asleep ...  ::)).

Here are some pics (these pics are not so good, but they are the only ones I've got for now ...)

Btw, here's a video I made soon after I got it a few months ago to show what it does or how ... whimsical it is :D

Since then I think it's got worse.

That's not right man. Send it in for a replacement. Hope mine does not suffer from the same disease. BTW, I already dropped it on the floor accidentaly. It's taken it well, not issues so far after day 1.

That's how mine started, but now it's more off than on.

I'll send it back after the UK meetup next week now you've all reminded me I can.

I love my solitaire. It was a gift from my loved friend. It has worked for years for me. I donot carry it too much, but it stays by my nightstand, for those dark nights i wake up. It is not too bright to wake me up totally. It is just right to wander through the house. I do not think i will upgrade it to led.

I'm almost tempted to join the Solitaire owners club after seeing this.
£10 seems like a good price for a Solitaire & Classic.

It has struck me before that lots of flashaholics are very happy to disparage the weak light given out by the incandescent Solitaire, but then rave about how useful their super-low-moonlight mode is on their latest LED torch. :D

  Right.

I find the "dumb" incandescent Solitaire very useful at night. No blinding and no going through a hundred modes to reach the moonlight one.

+1. My little LED Solitaire is one of my favorite lights. I have come to the conclusion I really like single mode light, but adjustable optics.

You are correct sir. The LED solitaire is missing a moonlight mode.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but do I see a clip from a Led Lenser P3 ?  Probably pinched together a bit because normally it would be a bit big for the Solitaire, right ?

It does look great  ;).
