This entire post is full of spoilers for S06 E09 'Battle of the Bastids' (yes, intentionally misspelled)

S06 E09, B of the B, might be the first episode I actually LIKED this season.

I can't place it, but the whole season has felt OFF. Someone suggested that after surpassing the source material, the problem is that the dialogue isn't coming from GRRM any more, and that might be it, or part of it.

There is most definitely a couple other factors. One, as the show moves into the 'third act' of the story, we're seeing a shrinking of cast. And, also, as it moves into the third act, we're seeing a BIG ramp-up of the fantasy elements.

Show content
I had a serious problem that Wun Wun (The Giant) showed up on a battlefield and no one in the Bolton Army seemed to blink a f-ing EYE at that.

"Hey... uhhh... Lord Ramsey, I can't help but notice that the one wildling guy... just there... is standing head and shoulders... and torso... over everyone else, and seems to have... ahh... just PUNTED a horse. I'm just thinking... just spitballing here... that maybe that gate, meant to stop men... MIGHT not stop him. Also, if they have a Giant, they might have Grumpkins and Snarks, and I didn't sign up for that sh!t."

The battle was pretty epic. In fact, it was awesome. Dany's terms of surrender scene was pretty excellent.

The 'GRRL POWER' thing is wearing SUPER thin. I like strong female characters. I DON'T like that right now, it seems EVERY male character is groveling at the feet of the super-awesome-wonderfulness that is feminine leadership. Dany, Sansa, and Asha.

I guess it doesn't help that Jon Snow is still about as no-nothing as he's ever been. Super strategy FAIL! But don't worry, Jon, it only cost a few thousand people their lives. No big.

I'm going to have to say, Ramsey's end was incredibly satisfying and perfectly apropos.

Is it weird that I cared WAY more when Hodor died than when Rickon died? Oh, by the way, there was this one Stark kid named Rickon. Remember him? No? Don't feel bad. No one else did, either.

B of the B is definitely the strongest episode this season.  There's been other incidents that have been very effective and well done, but a lot has been pretty forgettable.  Totally agree with your summation of the episode, with Sansa's little smile at the end needing special attention.  That gave me a little chill down my spine.
Be excellent to each other and always know where your towel is.

I liked the battle strategy. Reminded me of some early episodes of Vikings. The shield wall tactic is brilliant! Been used since the times of Alexander the Great by several armies.

I remember reading that the Romans used the shield wall in conjunction with spear to create a near impenetrable wall. The soldiers of the Legions were trained to spear the guy not directly in front of them, but to the front right or left. This was a deadly tactic that the hordes of Germanic tribes were killed by.
Don't get too serious, just enough will do.

The shield wall was done great. And this is the first time I've seen a 'wall of bodies' in any way on film. It's been described a number of times. I LOVED the crush of the wildlings, nearly trampling Jon. And as soon as the Knights of the Veil showed up, i was just thinking how utterly ineffective a shield wall is... when facing the wrong direction. Trample, trample, crunch, mangle, giggle.

Tactically, the only thing I had GREAT issue with was that Wun Wun should have been able to punch a hole through that shield wall essentially effortlessly. He's like a war elephant. I assume the entire Wildling army fail is due largely to the fact that (as Jon said seasons earlier) they REALLY don't know how to fight in organized war. Even if Wun Wun had, the Wildlings wouldn't have been looking for the breach to capitalize on it. They're essentially a bunch of individuals instead of an organized whole.

Gareth, yes. The little Mona Lisa smile Sansa gave at the end of the ep was so awesome.

The last episode of Season 6 is called 'Winds of Winter', and not to be spoilery, but in the preview for the ep, they show a white raven, which is what the Maesters of the Citadel send out to signal the official beginning of Winter.

So... By next ep. ... Winter is Here.

Also some humor about last ep... Jon Snow pulls a Leroy Jenkins.

Have you noticed that (almost) all of the "heads" of the various families are gone and it's the "kids" that are taking over everywhere across the land? Ok, there's a lot of backstabbing and betrayal, but in the beginning we had lots of older folks in all the realms. Suddenly, it's a complete "out with the old, in with the new" everywhere. Not only that, girls are taking over. It's the same in every film, tv series. Even male super-heros are being replaced/overshadowed by female super-heros.

Just read that the Brexit might cause some budget cuts in GoT... since part of it is filmed in the UK and uses funds from the Eu.

Not for a while. From what I understand, Britian will still be a full fledged member of the EU for the better part of two years, at least until the terms of leaving are negotiated.

(Regarding S06E10, Winds of Winter)

Well...

ahh... Hmmm....

That ep seemed even more murdery than usual.

About half of what happened was pretty dead on to what i thought would happen. I do have to admit that there were a few surprises, though.

Pretty awesome.

You can see lots of stuff like that in the battles, when you look away from the main characters in the foreground. Another thing I like is when you see an archer at full draw for more than 10 seconds without trembling...

Good episode, but it left me really PO'ed.

I mean, killing Natalie Dormer's character, WTF!!!

First class eye candy.

I think they borrowed a bit from the Baptismal scene in The Godfather, with Cersei getting all duded up while everyone is in the temple, the somber background music, all set a feeling a something is gonna happen here, and it ain't gonna be pretty. The evil queen at her plotting and payback time. I get the feeling that her own payback is gonna be a Mutha!

It all looks like they are getting ready to wrap up the show with everything going against he Lanisters at last. Diana Rigg's charter Lady Olenna Tyrell, making a alliance for revenge with the Sand Snakes, Dany the Dragon lady finally gets her ships and sets sail with her army and air support. It looks like the Lanisters are going to end up like a walnut in the nut cracker.

But best of all, I LOVED the Frey back stabber getting his throat cut by the younger Stark girl. Looks like Arya learned a lot in the house of black and white. Besides Bronn, I've always had a fondness for Arya, she keeps her eye on the ball and doesn't shrink from slipping a blade into someone to settle an old debt. Dangerous little girl with a knife, I like that! Now that she's back in Westros, it'd be nice to see her and the hound meet up. They made a pretty good tag team in that tavern fight over the chickens.

They've really speeded up the killing off of major bad guy characters.
Don't get too serious, just enough will do.
