More Hunger Games
on: April 07, 2013, 10:08:55 PM
Got around to watching The Hunger Games, and saw some more tool companies that survived the apocalypse:

Mentioned before, Nite Ize S-Biners:

Rambo knife (will they ever die...):

Good to see that Cold Steel will still be in business:

Do you have a screen capture of it? Or a time when she uses it?

That would be a stainless steel flip top growler. Not sure what brand, there are a few, and they all look similar.

Bit of US beer history:
  • The beer bottle started as a refillable, replaceable cap bottle that folks could take to the local drinking establishment and have filled from the tap to take home.
  • Preceding it was the "growler", an enameled bucket with a heavy lid that would "growl" as the gas from the beer in the bucket would make gurgling sounds as it escaped and rattled the lid.
  • The "flip top" was later added to glass bottles for convenience, and to prevent loss.
  • As of late, metal has become the material of choice for the flip top growler so that it can be filled at the tap and then drank from in public areas. This is due to "public consumption" being illegal in most municipalities, specifically those that would lend themselves to the such.

ahhh i seee.... I now have a better understanding of these things, because I rememeber one time when  saw a movie with a guy walking into a bar asking for his brown crystal bottle to be filled with "black Irish"...I guess that's what it was. I saw one on Amazon just now and placed an order.... turnsouth ...my good man, this poor asian boy's tropical island weekend nights will never be the same. It'll be me, an iPod, my eno hammock, my percussions and a 64 oz growler at the beach!

Gabriel

Kinda OT.  The new film Hunger Games: Catching Fire, will be coming out November 22.  I wonder what toys they plan to use?

Some run from breaks of ice, and answer none:
And some condemned for a fault alone." -William Shakespeare, King Lear (1608), Act IV, scene 6, line 169

I love the look of those flip top growlers but the shipping on them is a killer. :(

As for tools used in the new movie? The clock island, ... maybe some scuba gear. ;)

High, I'm new here. I saw your question about the flask. The flask looks like one of the Sigg .4L Stainless Oval flasks that Sigg was selling that were made in China. This p[age on Trailspace has a good pic.

That does indeed look like the correct flask. Thanks for letting us know and welcome to the forum. :waving:
