Looking good buddy.

+1   you should add some music for a soundtrack
Thanks!!

I need to look into music that YouTube won't block.

I haven't done it in a while but I think there are songs that you can add right from Youtube editing.

I had mine out last night and the wind took it for a bit of a ride. I almost lost it on top of one of the apartment buildings across the street!

Luckily I was able to safely crash it on the sidewalk out front, but it was close indeed!

dmac, if you go to your Video manager there is an icon for audio under the video box . If you click on it Youtube will give you a selection of songs of different genres or you can search for more that are similar in length to your video.

15 minutes or so on mine, but the batteries seem to only last a dozen or so charges before they need to be replaced.

Mind you I am getting a half dozen at a time for about $25, so there might be better quality batteries out there.

If I'm using the camera, it's about 6-8 min.  Without the camera, about 8-10.  It's only a 650mah battery though.

So I think I might buy a DJI Phantom 3 Standard.  It's going to be hard to shell out the cash for it, but I think it's something I can get a ton of use out of it.

Buy them now, before they need a license, as this seems to be where we are heading to, worldwide.

When I flew to NS last time via Frankfurt Airport they had a DJI demo booth in the main hall... it was a large enclosure that they were letting people test fly them. Sadly it was always busy or closed while I was there...

Pretty much the majority of professional looking drone footage I've seen on youtube seems to be filmed with DJI rigs... shame about the pricing, but yeah, mind as well invest in a quality rig and get some good use out of it.

Seems popular for real estate, and I think that's one situation where you need licensing and bonding to do legally.

DJI is a great choice Derek.  It's a bit of an investment indeed, but they are the standard for a reason.

For any commercial use here you need a permit.  From what I understand though, they are very easy to get.  When we were out driving today, I kept saying to my wife "That would be cool to record with the drone".  She calls me her cute geek, lol!! :D

It definitely is an investment!  That's good money I could put into upgrades for the new Jeep, or some new tools that I've been wanting.  I just visualize all the cool shots that I could be taking.  Even if hardly anyone else sees them, they'll make me super happy.

Off-roading vids would be soooo awesome too!  One trail here (The Pipeline) is nice and open, and would be great for doing flybys, and capturing the rigs along the trail.  The major downfall is it's actually illegal to fly there as it's right next to the airport. :(  I really don't see it being a problem if I keep it below tree level though.

I picked up my Phantom 3 Standard tonight.   :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh  It's too dark to fly, and the batteries are charging right now.  If the weather is nice tomorrow when I get home, I'll take it for its maiden voyage.

Here's my first vid and first flight.  It was REALLY windy, and this thing handled it very well!

Yep, gotta try it with the Jeep. :D  I did a check test just walking down the street, and it followed me, and kept me in frame.

In that vid, I only went up to 55 meters in height.  The legal limit here is 90m, and the max height for the drone is 500m.

I can't wait to take it out more and play with it!!!

Get a kevlar vest- it's in one of the less savory parts of North End Dartmouth.... :P

If you go to Follow Me mode in the Jeep make sure you leave a lot of distance between you and the drone- some of the rooster tails that you kick up in puddles and mud holes would make a real mess of a nice toy like that one!  :D

I'm impressed with how stable it is.  Mine is pretty light and therefore at the mercy of even the slightest breeze so I never fly it that high.  Mind you it is also a cheap toy, and what you have now is a legitimate tool.  I really like the FPV option and I guarantee my next one will have that feature.

After being disappointed with the x5c (I flew it very few times and was totally useless in any mild wind),  I am considering two FPV, altitude hold models, the JXD 509G or the Wltoys Q222g, which are low cost, and have good reviews. The jxd will need some small mods but there are plenty of parts...

Or maybe, for twice that much, I will get the Flying 3D X6 Plus which adds GPS but does not have a brilliant flying time...

We have rolls of kevlar at work, so I'll just make a full body wrap!

Yep, I'll make sure it's up high enough.  I also bought another app to use, Autopilot, and with the follow me mode it has, you can set it to follow behind, left or right, and in front.  It also has a few other cool options for follow me.

The gimbal makes a world of difference!  Like I said, it was really windy, and you could see the drone being moved in the air, but the gimbal keeps the video level and still.  Having it controlled/assisted by GPS also helps a ton!  With my other little drone, you had to keep constant input to keep it in one spot, but this, you can just let go of the sticks and it'll stay where it is for as long as you want.
