New satchel
on: May 13, 2013, 07:19:16 PM
Got this in the other week, a nice traditional leather satchel.

Not a mag-bag, not a "murse", a satchel.  A MAN's bag. :D

If you say so. :P

Now quit teasing us, show us the insides. :pok: Does it have compartments or just one large storage space? What are the dimensions? ...

Hay Gareth. My wife says they also come in a range of different colours.

As you know from the last meet I sometimes carry a smaller leather bag which other less assured of them selves may shy away from.

it has one external zipped section, one internal zip and an internal divider.  It's sized to take an A4 folder. :tu:

Looks like a very well made bag. :tu: Reminds me a bit of the Saddlebeck Leather Classic Briefcase.

I'm sure your wife will enjoy it!

It's probably closest to the Classic Briefcase Thin.  And yes, I do believe my wife might have here eyes on it as well. ;)

BTW I am just old enough to remember when the only school bag would have been a satchel, no backpacks at school when I was 5-6 years old.

Hey, you're mocking a guy who can wear a skirt and get away with it - the bag is nothing! ;)

I Like it Gareth, should last you a good long while too

See, this is what I don't get, men have ALWAYS carried a variety of bags, including the satchel.  A couple of generations of guys not carrying anything other than rucksacks and we seem to have totally given the whole idea over to women.

That seems like a fine satchel. I like the interior a lot. The colour is nice and classic, I would have gone for one with more of a reddish hue but that's me.

*Sigh* You make me feel older. I find it stupid that people my age (I'm 31) seem to discard older ways of doing things very easily. I guess they don't know otherwise and they want to follow the trends as well. All this worship of anything new and modern just for that reason I find that sad. Backpacks are useful but I stopped carrying mine daily a few years back because of back issues and because it was making me sweat a lot which only aggravates things.

I carry this for the past three years: http://www.fjallraven.com/outdoor-equipment/backpacks-and-bags/vintage-briefcase

I like the look of that a lot mate.  Not quite what I would think of as a briefcase (those should have a solid body IMO) but still an excellent looking bag, whatever it is called. :tu:

lol, don't ask.  I have more shoes and boots than any other bloke I know.  A lot are for specific activities: running, hiking, riding etc, others are dependent on time of year, summer, winter, rain or sine.  Then I have casual wear or smart, black and brown.  The list goes on. :D

Good, speSmurfpillsed shoes are definately a tool in my mind. If I'm not mistaken wearing a kilt properly comprises a small knife in your sock?

Not quite what I would think of as a briefcase (those should have a solid body IMO)
I wouldn't call this bag a briefcase either nor carry a laptop in it but it is spacious and lightweight so I'm all set. I think I wouldn't want to carry a leather bag around so I wouldn't ruin it.

I suppose women tend to carry bags more because the ridiculous clothing made for us rarely has any decent pockets.

I like pockets and don't buy clothes without good ones, but I also have a bag habit so like those too! :D

Nice satchel Gareth! I,ve started to appreciate bags a lot more since becoming a father! I simply need to carry more things than my pockets will take, also clothes are generally more comfortable and I feel more supple with empty pockets.
That satchel will look even better as it gets older and develops a patina!

This might be helpful for when you're wearing that thing out-and-about Gareth...
I was in my local bike shop a few months ago.  The Ryders sun-glass rep was in there stocking the rack wearing a similar bag.  I look at him, smile, and say "nice man purse", he turns reaches down holds it up and says "Indiana Jones had a bag like this"...
