New love for the Pocketwrench II
on: May 27, 2013, 07:30:35 PM
Sometimes when a tool has been around for awhile it gets cast away for the latest new gadget. I've owned a Pocketwrench and Pocketwrench II for a long time now. I usually have one in with my multitool sheath as an extra edc tool. I also carry one in my bicycle tool bag and I have a few floating around in my shop.

I've been carrying the Pocketwrench II lately and I've found new love for this great tool. Not only is it handy, but it is strong enough to do just about any task that you throw at it. Made of 420 stainless steel it is a tough little bugger.  :tu:

I'm going to be ordering 5 more pretty soon. At $10 each, that is really hard to beat!

Note: I'm not affiliated with Burktec in any way, I just love their Pocketwrench II.

It sure is!   :tu:

I'm not really collecting pocket tools anymore so I really appreciate a tool that does the job and doesn't cost a ton of $$$. The Pocketwrench II and the LM Brewzer are the best bang for your buck, IMO.

It's certainly one of the best value pocket tools out there, and extremely useful too :)

Ive bought a few one piece tools but the pocketwrench 2 is the only one I kept.  And then I bought a second one. :D  Very affordable, and a great companion to an MT or sak.  :tu:

Some day I hope to find one of the older pocketwrench II made out of chrome vanadium. I saw one on the bay some time back and it went kind of high. Seems like they were made by Latshaw Tool.

If you're nor worried about the finish on the but, the Pocket wrench II has to be one of the best one pieces out there.  The only other tool in the same the class is the Leather man Piranha

The original Pocketwrench (or Pocketwrench I) was black and came out roughly 20+ years ago. I have one somewhere but for the life of me I can't find it. If I do I'll post some pictures of it.   :tu:

I am going by memory here. I believe that my original Pocketwrench didn't say II on it. It was black with deep etching. I could be wrong, but I'll keep looking for my original one.   :tu:

Were there any design differences besides the color? ie. thickness, inch and metric scales, ...

I have a couple. They're handy companions that slip neatly into the back pocket of a Leatherman sheath. The box-wrench aspect limits it a bit, but it is great on exposed nuts. I have to ask, why the preference for the chrome vanadium versus the stainless? This is usually an argument I see pertaining to Case slipjoints on the Traditional knife sub-forum over at BF.

Here's the pic from it. :tu: No scales on it.

Edit: ok, this was weird. I quoted David but ended up quoting Terry's post from another thread back in May 2006.

That looks like a really useful little tool. How sturdy are  the teeth, i.e. how easily do they strip?

Glad to see that picture, I thought I was going crazy!   :D  IIRC, they came in stainless and black in the original run but who really knows, it has been years and my memory isn't what it once was.     I'll keep looking...

Just call me GG123, I'll get a picture tomorrow!
