Maybe it was a bail that broke off and was re-rivetted?

Cool find. :hatsoff:

Thanks Enkidu. Never thought about a bail (ever seen a stainless steel 74mm SAK with bail?).
I did however think about the possibility of it being repaired. But since it is the only pin actually holding a spring (the other three pins don't connect to a spring but only act as pivots) I thought that maybe this was one of Vic's first designs?

Possibly.

Nope, never seen a stainless steel 74mm with bail, but I've seen smooth alox 74mm with one.  On a different pin though it seems.

Yup I have a cellidor one with bail, have been looking for alox with bail for quite some time. I think it's actually the same pin, the one that goes through one or two springs (depending on the number of layers obviously).

There's also that sterling one with a different type of bail but now we're getting off topic ;)

Interesting discussion. Took a closer look at my knives. There is indeed a difference between arcs and waves. I`m not sure if this happened really intentionally, or if they changes something in the production-process that made waves out of arcs. I added the new patterns to the compilation, and found a new one too.
The 84 mm one on karls picture on the bottom with the 3 lines of double-arcs is a new one to me. If you would like to sell or trade, just let me know.

I thought that they produced first the guilloche-scales to put them on the knife later. But the pins on the scales are also guilloched, that means that the design was put on the scales at the very end of the production. Seems difficult because of the different shapes of scales between 74mm, 75mm etc.

I just noticed my pillow case has the diamonds pattern as well. Fortunately it's cotton, stainless steel would probably not be very comfortable
