Got the prototype drawing of that?

Hmm, seems like a tool was released with a similar hammer after that mod was posted....

I disagree on the skele and MUT variants possibly being more to come.  Leatherman has consistently shown that multiple variants of their tools mean that even slightly older variants get retired in order for the newer ones to be produced.  I highly doubt that the SX would replace anything, and they have flat told me in emails that their Sport specific tools will not be replacing their main line.  Beyond adding scissors, I fail to see what else Leatherman* would do with their Skeletool platform.  And since they seem to like not having either scissors or an awl on many tools, they aren't likely to add either to the skele.

I'm with Jzmtl, there are much more functional ways to achieve what the SX can do.

OK, late to the party, but I think this needs the devil's advocate.

I agree with all the concerns about the point of this idea, and what might happen in the future, but I don't see a toy for giggles.

This isn't much of a diamond file, but I carry one of the little "GI" keychain sharpening stones in my possibles bag when I'm in the woods and those are smaller than this. And I've said since it was introduced the Skeletool partnered with a Vic Huntsman or similiar gives you a good, well rounded toolset for off the blacktop. And depending on the grit, while I see it might be hard on pockets, it shouldn't be too hard on hands.

But it looks like they will be pooching the marketing
"Even if it is only the handful of people I meet on the street, or in my home, I can still protect them with this one sword" Kenshin Himura

Necessity is the mother of invention. If you're not ready, it's "a mother". If you are, it's "mom".

Way late here... But I stopped by the LM store today and noticed the SX. My first reaction was wtf?! At first I thought they needed to replace their trashed display model cx. But anyway, what a bizarre application.

I have no problem with Leatherman making extreme sports tools.  My first notion of Leatherman tools is outdoors/boy scouts/etc.  It's not a far leap from hiking and camping to mountain biking, skiing, snowboarding etc.

The problem is their approach.  Taking an existing tool from the lineup and gluing a file on the side or replacing some of the screwdrivers with a fin tool (why do surfboard fins not use standard drivers?) just clutters up the catalog with stuff no one really wants.  The flat tools aren't much better.

Meanwhile, seemingly no R&D at all is going into the trades-oriented tools.
My EDC:
Leatherman Skeletool   Led Lenser P3 AFS P
Leatherman Style CS    "Fauxton"
Sharpie Twin Tip           Bic Mini

I used my Leatherman Wave to saw off the jagged part of a wooden handle which had snapped off near the head of this broom at work. Then I used the pliers to twist the remaining nub out of the broom head & continued with the pliers in installing the new handle. I would'nt have been able to get that done without my Leatherman. Big points with bossman.

Thanks Leatherman, (Thank you Wave).

The Wave does so much for me on a daily basis. When I work at Advanced Auto Parts I truly wouldn't be caught dead without it. So much utility in this little package. Little enough for me at least. I love my Wave!

Glad to hear another LM fan has joined us.

However, wrong thread bud.

Maybe start with an introduction, then work your way to "what did you use your Leatherman for today"
