I am in. amazing blades
(Image removed from quote.)
I love that set! Have all 3 and the San Mai is my bedside blade.

As far as whether Cs uses the notch, I think it's probably a simplicity of sharpening and manufacturing idea, rather than a tacticool approach. They tend to modernize as much as is "tasteful and useful" and yet stay true to the core of the system.

I have 2 khuks made by HIMIMP, and those are excellent choppers and flat workhorse blades.

Are they better? IMHO YES, YMMV. I would love to see a head on comparison between the CSGK and a HIMIMP or TORA of the same size and weight!

Andi I mean Cold Steel proof video style. Chop, cut, slash for slash.

I'd put money on HIMIMP for the win!

Love to find a carbon steel version with finger grooved micarta and about a 8 inch blade...so about 13 inches. A good belt size.

Of course, a man could always cho up his CS Khukuri with the right files...

Y'all remember "Deadliest Warrior" on Spike TV?? (I know..I know)

When they did Ghurkha vs French Foreign Legion...the Ghurkha gentleman on the show said that...and this is a paraphrase...

The Cho helped drain away large amounts of blood during combat because the natural grips could get slick and cause you to loose the blade.

I was under the impression it was a Hindu symbol, reverence for the bovines.

I personally prefer the religious meanings as none of the others work in practice, ie blood still runs down the handle from the blade, its shrouded in mystery and i prefer that than all the out there ideas  :tu:

Oh yeah me too...no criticism at all. The religious one is the explanation that makes the most sense to me as to why it would be there.

There is/was a vid on YT of a Ghurkha "induction ceremony" of sorts...where they beheaded a LARGE bovine in a single swarp with what I can only describe as a Khukuri SWORD..,GOOD GOD...one of the most amazing things I've ever seen on Tube..

See I'm about 5 foot 5 and weigh about as much as the average Ghurkha.  The fact that that they can generate that kind of power with that weapon is astounding for them to be that small. That is one HEAVY sword, either outweighs or matches something like a CS Great Sword or Grosse  Messer.

Gracious peace loving people who can go full on combat in a second and hold their own with some of the fiercest warriors of other cultures.

And then there's the whole thing of Sherpas who've climbed Everest over 20 times in expeditions, the Khamis who make those great knives in mud huts that will in most cases outperform modern cutlery by a large margin, on and on and on.

An iconic knife in the pantheon of world blade culture, built by one hell of a people!!

I spoke with Uncle Bill Martino before his passing when I bought my 18 inch AK. Very kind personable gentleman and he explained to me that at least in the HIMIMP case that when they sold a Khukuri in the US the proceeds could feed a Khamis family for months, one of the main reasons I enjoy buying knives from HIMIMP if I can.

The guys on the HIMIMP FORUM at BladeForums were donating previously owned khuks in good condition for resale in lieu of donations for earthquake relief.

Ok photophiles I'm gonna try this...don't say I don't care about you guys

I wrapped a few of the handles in some stuff called Magic Wrap for pipes etc. it's a self adhesive stretchy rubber band on a roll of sorts. Easy to trim off with a razor knife etc. cushions the grip and protects it from your hands and the elements and no duct tape like goo...not that there's ANYTHING wrong with DT...don't shoot me!! :ahhh
