Three's the magic number.
on: September 07, 2013, 10:15:09 AM
Okay, an unusual request here.
I'm trying to think of as many variations as possible, where three would be the max!

i.e

The three LM Pruners - Genus/Vista/Hybrid
The three Vic'  Butane lighters - Campflame/Swissflame/XXLT
The three LM Zytel models - Blast/Fuse/Kick
The three Paladin's -  540/525/510

Obviously I know there maybe varying finishes, B/O, Silver, Camo etc etc.
But I'm more interested in model specific.

Any contributions?
I don't claim to know it all, but what I do know is right.

Swisstool/Swisstool RS/Swisstool X
Spirit/Spirit S/Spirit X
Kick/Fuse/Blast

That's off the top of my head, if they fit your criteria.

Kind of ... 5WR, ST6, 6LC ... there appears to be minor variations on some/all of them, but essentially they are the three "types". I'm not exactly wise about them myself, but there's lots of threads here with plenty of info. I have an ST6 variation - forgot which one  and a 6LC, and I am (thankfully) not pursuing the 5WR (which apparantly is a real chuff to track down)

I have just the one. Don't know the model number but do know its got the slight curved jaws.

Given its fairly high value these days, mine will no doubt remain in its blister pack - perish the thought of it eh' Al

They are mostly identical, just like the SwissTool, except that the standard Spirit has scissors and the peanut butter blade, the S version has the peanut butter blade and a drop point blade and the X has the drop point blade and scissors.

Although I readily admit I may have mixed up the S and X.

I would count the PS4 and ES4 to a different line as the E4, P4 and S4 have metal scales and PS4 and ES4 have plastic scales.

One of mine is actually still in the packaging to be honest (the 6LC - the one that looks like a leg iron  :P ), and if I don't have any cause to use it after a certain time it will be sold that way. I do like having it around as a locking plier option though, and from a capability perspective it compliments the Grappler and ST6H (I remembered  :P) quite well due to having such a large clamping ability. A good tool to have around by the looks of it  :)

Hi  zoidberg.

The knifeless fuse is still the fuse. But if as you say the Core has Zytel  liners then I'll have to cross out the other three.

What's it for??
It all started a few weeks back when I was trying to make sense of all the stuff I've accumulated
I grouped the Vic' butane lighters, LM pruners and Zytel models together. It was then that I began pondering what other models were limited to just three. It makes collecting them a much easier goal to achieve. Before the new style Charge arrived on the scene I was contemplating going after the ti and xti. I've got the Paladin 540 so now I'm gunning after the 525 and 510 etc etc etc.

I just thought rather than buying anything and everything this route would give more satisfaction.
Each to their own, I suppose.

Cheers :salute:

I don't count the Core with the Fuse, Kick and Blast because the Core is larger than the other three, while the Fuse, Kick and Blast are pretty well the same tool, just with a varying number of tools inside.  The handles (frame if you will) of the three are the same, while the Core is a bigger version of them.

The Core does have Zytel liners though, so if counting them for that reason, then yes, there are four.  I just picked them for different criteria.  :D

To make it a bit more difficult, maybe add the Juice color patterns to the list.

Blue: S2, SC2 and CS4

Red: S2, SC2 and C2

Alright, alright

We seem to be wandering off somewhat

A run of 3 tools only - a good example is the LM Pruners, Vic butane lighters, Paladin,s etc etc. what these have in common is that there is just 3

The skeletool, super tool, are great contributions in that there are 3 distinct variations. Wether it's silver,B/O or gold is irrelevant, the tool itself is one of a three.

... and if we're being really pedantic there are 6 versions of the Schrade Vise Grips as each type has two variations  >:D

The Buck X-tract has three variations (not counting colour) the original model, the Essential and the Fin ... although there is the LED version which is a variation on the original ... so is that three or four

The Bucktool comes in three different sizes, but if you speak to Longbow there's probably about 17 different variants  >:D >:D >:D

The Squirt with metal scales was the P4, S4 and E4, but the E4 was a specific for Radio shack, so does that mean there are only really two ... or does the PS4 mean there are four

The Styles ... there's the standard, the PS and the CS but the latter two are so different, does that actually qualify as three or just two?

The Spirits (which Grant got completely right in his assessment) are three, but the 2010 RT is an X model which is very different in appearance and droolability to the X, so does that make it four? What about the cap crimper ones?

The knifeless fuse IS a different tool to the fuse, by virtue of the file instead of the blade, and is a viable tool in it's own right in areas where the bladed Fuse is unacceptable ... and then there's the Core ... so it's a matter of whether it's four or five rather than a three

Freestyle, Skeletool and MUT? Set of three or rather contrived attempt at grouping?

Swiss+Tech 6 in 1, 8 in 1, 19 in 1?

IDL T5, T7 and T10?

Jedward and Louis Walsh? (They're all complete tools)

Minigrip, coffin scaled version, and Irongrip ... even though there's different versions .... and then there's the Porsche version  :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh

I think you might be on a loser with this one, Nick

Oh Al, I do so despair.

I say the glass is half empty, and you would stake your life it was actually half full.

The scenarios you list are all borderline.....so fine, not a problem.
But those that I and others mentioned are without doubt a trio if ever there was such a thing as a trio.
I'm not looking to make connections - simply trying to find the triplets!!

How hard can that be?
