Leatherman LEAP - The next Leatherman multitool!
on: September 15, 2013, 09:15:35 PM
Leatherman filed for a patent on a new tool, the LEAP.

Here's the description:
Quote
Multi-function hand tools comprised of any combination of pliers, wire cutter, knife, saw, scissors, screwdrivers, tweezers, a ruler, and a lanyard ring.

Anyone have any more info on it?

Or care to guess what it might be?

I'm thinking something pocket sized, maybe the size of the Juice series. They haven't done much in that size in years and the tool loadout described above would make an interesting addition to that size. :salute: Also I can't imagine them adding tweezers to a full sized tool or a saw to a keychain sized one. :D

Let's hope it is a "LEAP" and not a "STUMBLE AND FACEPLANT" like some of their other recent releases

I suppose it's beginning to be that time of year... time to get excited for next year! NEW TOOLS!

The Leatherman Leap? The name doesn't reveal any clues unless it's a skydiving or bungee jumping specific tool. No file? Booooo

Lol, I can't wait to see what this yields.

But doesn't everyone need a one piece tool that is essentially a screwdriver that you can wrap earbuds around?

Will this be a Leap,or a Quantum Leap?

And if it is,will it ever make the Leap home?
There is no beginning,or ending, and for this we are thankful, cos now is hard enough to understand!

I doubt it's for parachuting because they couldn't afford the liability when it inevitably broke!  >:(

More info here:

http://www.trademarkia.com/leap-86023325.html

The tweezers and saw seem to give some mixed signals as to the possible size.  I hope (really hope) that this is indeed a new Juice sized MT.

Could it be something Micra sized? As you've said the tweezers and saw seem a bit contradictory

I dunno, they do seem to think a metal file less than an inch long is still useful. ::)

Seriously though I do doubt it, a saw less than 3" long wouldn't be much use to anyone so I can't see them making one much smaller than that.

I will just say that the wording of that line could suggest that the tool is made of some kind of combination from that list, but not necessarily all of them.  Just saying.

They did file a patent application on January 14, 2012 which has recently published. From a quick glance it appears that they have a new locking mechanism which locks the pliers in an open position. I guess that's kind of useful

 I certainly hope this is not true, 1 inch file?  Unless the tool is in the format of PS4, if it is a full size tool with 1 inch file...

I read and re-read the pliers section, does anyone make any sense out of that jibberish?  Is it somekind of mechanism similar to OHT, the first line has the word 'slidably'.

That was the file I was kind of hinting at, I'm no fan of the P4/PS4 file and see it as being just about as useless as a 1" saw would be. ::)

I'm surprised no one mentioned the small file like the one on the Crunch. How long is the Crunch file again?
