It's better than the one on the Dime and the Wingman.

I find the Squirt file quite useful.

I'm surprised no one mentioned the small file like the one on the Crunch. How long is the Crunch file again?

IIRC the sales literature specifies it as "pathetically short"

Pretty much every tool is better than the wingman in some way.

Like, the pliers on the Wingman/Sidekick are better than those on the Squirt depending on purpose.

That's comparing apples to oranges.  According to that logic, my Supertool is better than all my other tools because it's bigger.  I will agree that the wingman pliers are better suited for larger tasks than the squirt.  But the wingman is not better than any tool in it's category, IMHO.

I'd say the juice scissors are good enough, and for the sake of simply having something nice to say I'll leave it at that.

I've always preferred Vic 91 mm scissors over any other multi scissor.  It's my most used tool by far, and I can't go anywhere without them.  I'm even considering dropping my plier based carry and just carrying a Vic for a while. (I know this makes you happy Steve!)

The Leap will be a budget Juice type tool. The Wingman of the Juice line if you will.

That was the file I was kind of hinting at, I'm no fan of the P4/PS4 file and see it as being just about as useless as a 1" saw would be. ::)

I'm really curious, what do you use your file for? The last couple of times I used a file was to smooth the top edges of brass rods while doing a SAK mod and more recently to file down a dented portion of my wife's custom aluminum flash bracket, which was about an inch in length and a bit less than 1/16" distorted. In both cases the file on my Crunch did the job in a minute or two. I doubt the file on my PS4 would have taken enough more time to have been tedious.

The file on my Crunch has a rough side cutting area of about 1.375" by .31".

The only truly useless file I've encountered was on the Dime. Both size and placement rendered it unable to even smooth a rough fingernail ::)

A more affordable redesigned Juice would not be a bad thing, subject to the standards of design and manufacture. The Juice irritates me more than anything else because the utterly brilliant concept is let down by poor design details and execution of manufacture (IMHO) as well as the prohibitive price.

Many people here have called for the Juice to be revisited, and I for one would welcome a Juice sized tool which is engineered to be less cost prohibitive, and it gives them the chance to iron out the wrinkles from the previous design. A half priced CS4-alike with less painful drivers, better scissors, straight saw, sharp awl, flat ground blade and functional can opener would be very nice indeed  :D :D :D

While I agree that the Juice blade profile sucks and the price may be a bit high, the awl can be sharpened in literally a minute or two, as can the can opener. The saw though is the best saw I've ever used on a multitool and the drivers won't poke you if you lift them using the side of your nail rather than the tip, seriously can't understand why that is such a problem for folks to ascertain :ahhh

Yes, I could certainly finish off what the factory didn't, but it would be nice if they did considering how much they charge. The saw works very well indeed and is comparable in speed to many larger multitool saws, but dives behind the awl when stowed on most of the juices I've seen/handled. Having to hold the saw blade in position with one hand whilst closing the awl with the other is minor but very irritating. Much like the distinctly average (at best) scissors jamming up on stowage on the two CS4's I've owned. As for the drivers - they always bite me, but then not everyone's fingers are the same

My irritation comes not from the severity of any one of these issues, it's how many issues there are and how prevalent they are. It wouldn't take much rejigging and refinement for these tools to go from being one of the most annoying I've ever tried, to the best pocket sized multitool (for me) on the market - and as there are tales that much of the elevated cost is due to the scale construction, they have chance to engineer some real costs savings for the consumer whilst they're fixing the rest of the niggles

Suspension?

As to the Juice drivers, I can open them without getting bitten but I have to try. I'd say they're bitey by default.

Certainly a "budget" Juice with all issues from the Juice line corrected would not be a bad thing.

But I doubt very seriously that this is what we would see.

I would imagine a Juice done up at Wingman level quality with all the same issues and possibly new ones.

Sorry, but.. That's how I see it going down. And I am far from a LM detractor.

It's either that, or some kind of obscure sport specific tool. Like.. A LM aimed at curling.. or biathalons.

Is the Juice due for a redux? Absolutely! Would I like to see a new Juice line that corrects the issues? Totally!

I would also pay a premium price for that. So why make it a budget tool?

I'd rather pay more for a rock solid high quality tool that is engineered well, finished well, and well made with solid QC. I don't buy MTs that I think will be junk. If I can be certain that it is rock solid, I will happily pay more.

My best tools have been:

ST200
ST300
Rebar
Spirit
Gerber Multiplier (original, and Pro Scout)

And not one of them was without some issue.

ST200 - bad locks
ST300 - one floppy lock lever
Rebar - loose tools on one side
Spirit - very soft Phillips driver
Gerber MP and Pro Scout - blood blisters

I mean.. When can we finally see a MT with a "complete" tool load out and no issues?

When someone finally does that, I will smile wide while I open my wallet.

So do I need a "budget" Juice? No. I need a brilliant one.

one of the biggest contributors to the (relatively) high cost of the Juice models is the colored aluminum scales. if the Leap turns out to be a revamped Juice, LM could significantly reduce the cost of the tool simply by keeping it to SS and not messing with any scales.

personally, I'd love to see the Leap manifest itself as a revamped KF4...  :dd:

I too would like a revamped KF4.  The only thing it lacks for me is the scissors.  I would like them to replace the serrated blade with scissors, and then it would be complete to me.  Although it would still lack an opener tool, I don't think I'd be all that concerned about it.

I was just going to post this. Maybe it'll be an infamous KF4S, or whatever.

If it is anywhere closer to the Wingman/Sidekick, I am out.

I refuse to own a wingman or sidekick because they are junk. I hope LM has learned their lesson on manufacturing such garbage and that the new "leap" is something of quality.

I think a juice redo is in order as well.  I have to agree with glorn though, the curling world is without a tool, and who can they count on if they leatherman doesnt make a tool for them?
