How much is a leatherman Sideclip worth now in days?
on: October 18, 2013, 06:28:00 PM
I'm interested in buying a leatherman sideclip to add to my collection but I don't know how much is a decent amount to pay.  when I look on ebay I see rediculus prices like 100 dollars or more.  do any of you guys know a realistic price I would be able to pick one of these up for?

I don´t know about the prices in the US but I bought a NIB Sideclip for $ 46 a few months ago here in Germany.

Did you look on eBay ? Advanced search, Sold listings will show what they have actually sold for (as distinct from what prices people asked for and didn't get  ::) )

My search just now showed lots sold in the $ 40-50 range

They are pretty common, so I wouldn't pay too much (unless you want a NIB one).

I paid $30 shipped to Alaska for a very nice Sideclip with sheath just a few weeks ago. Just keep an eye out on ebay and they will show up every once and a while for a reasonable price.

As far as i know the sideclip was the only model that used a 5pt torx.

I sold then bought back my sideclip a few years back, and it was/is very well used.  It sold for around $65 if memory serves, and i was damn lucky to get it back for that price.  The guy could have gouged me.

They all use a 6pt torx.

I stand corrected!  I saw a pic of a 2004 wave with 5pt screws.

I think the pre 2004 Waves were 5star  maybe a few new Waves too in the beginning.

0997 is stamped on the earliest and latest 1297 of my four portioned handles. Realize that until all components came together, these handles were in tubs on shelves. They missed the Christmas of 97 sales rush. Employee handouts and Cabela were the first released in 98. It had poor sales. I have a "brand new" unused pitless unscathed matte finished original with design oops. The drawback is, mine is name engraved. We made so many of these quickly. 10s of thousands sat in the warehouse unsold, I just can't believe that they became rare. I've seen these offered in the clam shells and you never know what you going to get when you cut the clamshell open, it may be a handle flop or tight, loose tension. The Phillips component will scrape against the blade when you pass either or. You have to remember to pull the Phillips away from the blade or it will marr.
