Yes, I admit it. I love the Flair.

"Why, Glorn? How can you love such a hapless mess of a multitool.. a mistake?"

 You can never understand our love. It is.. unique. Just like the Flair itself.

Why do I love thee, Flair? Let me count the ways..

1. Shiny. Silver and gold looks nice together. Which leads me to the next reason..

2. Gold colored shiny multitool bits that aren't from Texas.

3. Slip joint. Locks are over rated. Slip joints feel good.

4. It's a PST II without a file. Which is not at all bad. Because..

5. It has a fork. A fork! That is like a woman with a third nipple. You don't really need it, but now that you have it... Hey!

6. It has a blade reserved for soft cheese or peanut butter. I LOVE soft cheese. Especially runny, stinky, soft cheese. Now I can open a multitool when such cheese is near and nobody can say a thing about it. Back up! It's time for some serious cheese work. I'd better put that cheese in my vise.

7. The scissors are lovely. And my Rebar doesn't have those. It doesn't have a cheese blade or a fork either, so that's a triple threat super win.

8. Well I forget what eight is for but...

9. It has a cork screw. Like a SAK. I like SAKs and I like wine. All I need now is a table full of women with extra nipples and some runny cheese. Party time.

10. It is an old LM. So it is well made, polished (Reference: "Shiny" Section 1), and precise. And the pliers and drivers are of course brilliant.

11. It says Portland Oregon on it and Portland is a nice town.

12. It is small and yet packed with tools. This is how MTs oughta be.

13. It whispers in my ear about the places we will go and the wine we will open and the ripe cheeses we will share. Tales of women and odd numbered nipples and olives speared upon teeny tiny well made forks. It tells me how attractive and smart and clever I am.. and I tell it how much I love it..

Not because it is perfect.. But because it is perfectly unique.

I have been waiting years to see a thread on MTO with the words "runny cheese" and "third nipple".   Finally my dream has come true.

Ah, Greg..

Soon, my friend. Soon you too will be dancing in the dim light of evening in slow circles, your Flair held close, empty bottles of wine and cheese rinds littering the floor beneath your soft footsteps.

"My god.. Glorn was right," you will whisper "I love you, Flair."

My only Leatherman is a Flair. I really like it for its size and weird tool selection! I don't use it much though, mainly fiddling.

One thing that must be said about the flair is that it's the only multitool of all the big four that has the assist made right.

Also, second of the top 5 images when googling Leatherman Flair is of an Aussie guy sticking a Flair fork up his nose. :ahhh

By the way, why no pics to illustrate your points?

I love a fork on my pocket tool, right now I use the toothpick whenever there is fingerfood and nothing better is available.

Great tool.
Forks forever!

There's actually two of them. They are twins. The chicks, not the nipples. Okay, technically the nipples are all twins also. Together they have six of them.

I edc a Pst II, but when the holidays are near I swap it out for the Flair.  Its getting close to that time of year for the flair to save the day with its cork screw.

It does feel odd using the fork and spreader at parties. When someone asks if its clean, I say I oil it every day :D  I might get looks, but when I open their beer for them they get it.

The Flair's general quality was never an issue, unlike some modern Gerber SOG etc. products.
It seems to have a weak Corckscrew system but as a multitool it can take the same amount of abuse/use as the PST, on which it was based.
The fork and the butter knife can be seen as just extras (similar to some not immediately useful SAK implements, i.e. the hook, cuticle pusher)
LM has several current "niche" products a lot more worthy of the "Gerber treatment" than the Flair.  :D

I know it was made before the internet spread but maybe some of the experts here (Grant and Bob come to mind) may be able to tell us how it was received by people when it was first released.

Never doubted the build quality, (corkscrew aside) - though would I be right in assuming ergonomics are on a PST? (Early model - understandable  :salute:) My agreement on the Gerber comment was more to do with the flak they get, irrespective of whether the tool is good or bad.

"It's Gerber, it's different, it must be awful"  :ahhh :ahhh  :P

As I said before, I like the fact they tried something so different with the Flair, and it's nice to see people using them and appreciating them as everyday tools - but that doesn't mean I want one  ;)

But you know what? I had to check the SAKWiki to see if I could get a fork for a 58mm.

Now I wish I had one of the 58mm Golf-tools (Golfer / Caddy /Caddy Plus).
