Nice to see a lot of the older members making it back onto the forums.

I really like the older planes, especially those from the WW1 era.

Beautiful pics, Millhouse. :tu: For whatever reason, F-16's and F-104's are the perfect canvas for amazing paint schemes.

Yesterday, a pair of WWII bombers flew into the local airport to commemorate Algoma Aviation Week. They will stick around until Sunday. I definitely did not want to miss this. Both are from the Commemorative Air Force stationed in the United States. From what I was told, they are big, and have a lot of planes in their fleet...most if not all are in flying condition. A B17G Flying Fortress and a B25J Mitchell bomber were the visitors. A nominal fee of 10 dollars got me onto the field. I took my little Nikon point and shoot camera along for the ride. Yeah, I did take plenty of photos.

One thing I have to say, I am shocked at the size of these bombers. This is the first time I got to see them up and personal and not on the TV or in a book. I had assumed they were larger. The B17 looks like a large bird, but inside, it is absolutely tiny. There were areas I couldn't reach because I was a big guy. I have no idea how people fit in these things let alone fight in them. Once I saw the belly turret, I had to :o. I can't imagine anyone fitting into that fighting space. Which added to my growing respect for their crew. It was quite an experience, and one well worth the tenner at the door.

Well enough of my jaw wagging...time for the photos.

B-25 Mitchell.

The crawl tunnel that allowed crew members to go for and aft of the bomb bay.

There was a little ladder under the plane that allowed me to get up. Well, there wasn't much room for me to get in as there wasn't any head room at all. I was forced to take photos at arms lenght to capture the interior. Talk about a sardine can.

A self portrait.  ;)

B-17 Flying Fortress.

Even in this bomber, space was at a premium.

The bomb doors had a lot of signatures of the restoration team.

How did anyone fit in there, I will never know.

The computer on one of the side 50s.

Not just any Spitfire, the last remaining flying example that fought in the Battle of Britain.

Thought I'd post up a few pictures that were sent to me by a very good friend who is a professional photographer but did not take these pics. They were taken by a friend of his(also a photographer)who flew from California to Oshkosh and back in the plane in the first picture. The trip took approximately 9 days. There are a bunch of them but I will post only a few.

We had a surprise visit from three RAF Typhoons and their tanker today.  They were headed to California, but one was having problems refuelling in air, so they had to make a stop to have a look at it.  I chatted with the pilots and support crew for a bit, and they were some of the nicest guys I've met.  There were a couple of us that went down to check them out, and did a walk around with us.  It was pretty cool!! :tu:  We might have convinced them to put on a little show when they take off tomorrow too. :D

Impressive looking birds! What engines do they use? The tailpipes look a bit like J-79's.
Thought I'd post up some pics of a couple gatherings at the airport across the street from us. It is(or was)known as Meyers-Divers Airport as Meyers aircraft were built there starting in the 1930's.The last owner(who passed away a couple of years ago)was the son of the shop manager when the aircraft were being built. He used to host a reunion of Meyers aircraft every 5 years and the last one netted 34 craft which wasn't bad considering the lifetime production of ALL Meyers aircraft was only about 115.
Some of the pics will be of the reunion(the ones with the biplanes and the more modern aircraft)and others will be of a couple Memorial Day meets. The T-6's would do flyovers locally and refuel at the airport. The HU-16 was locally owned and was stored there after the city made the owner move it off his own private airstrip(too many noise complaints among other things).
It will probably take several posts so please bear with me.

I'm not sure what they have to be honest. They went to leave this morning, but one pilot shut down.
