My first SOG, what a mess.....
on: November 09, 2013, 12:53:28 PM
Hi everyone

I`m new at his forum and own some Leathermans like Wave, Charge, Surge, Rebar ans so on.
But I like to try a SOG Multitool too and found one at Evil Bay ;)
In Dollar I have paid something like 8$ inclusive shipping and here is what I`ve get for my money:

Some parts are broken, some parts are missing and the whole MT was very dirty.
So I took the SOG  to work and disassembled it, gave him some Ultrasonic cleaning and two rounds of Microblast and thats how it looks now.
I`ve orderd some missing and broken parts and when they arrive over here I can show you the new/old SOG :D
Btw, does anybody know the correct name of this SOG??

Welcome to the forum, nett Dich bei uns zu haben. :waving:

You de-"Black Oxided" it. :ahhh

:D

I never was sure if it should even be called BO on the sogs, it rubs of even by simply opening the tools. ::)

Nice clean up job on it. Where did you order the parts from?

I think it's the Powerlock where someone took of the tool covers but I'm sure I'll be corrected if I'm wrong.

Yes - you can see the holes where the flappy bits should go.

That looks a million times better than it did before, good work :tu:

And welcome to the forum  :salute:

Thanks for the welcome :) Vielen Dank für die Deutsche Begrüßung and sorry for my bad english :)

That black oxyd is nothing more like a nice kind of rust and like you say, it rubs off when you use the tool.
I work in a coating company and we work with coatings like DLC or TiAln, looks and feels much better than this BO stuff :)
I`ve orderd the parts for the SOG over here: http://tacopsgear.de/de/423-einzel-ersatzteile-zubehor
Hopefully the parts arrive soon!

Take it easy man :) I start with those Multitools about 2 month ago, before this time I only had a Victorinox Huntsman for 18 years :)

So in the future I will start coating some of my Multitools, the only problem is.........I don`t know much about temperature and the steel of those Multitools.
That means, those coatings run with 150 and 300 degrees (not Fahrenheit!) and I first have to find out if that causes problems with the steel of those tools.

Hello!
Nice job cleaning that Powerlock.
Looks like you need to get the covers, 1/4 inch socket drive, seatbeat cutter and a file.

Willkommen an Bord!

Ich wusste nicht, dass Tacopsgear SOG Teile vertreibt.

If you want a V-Cutter, for example I think I could help you out - I took one out of one of my SOGs.
I do have some other spares, too, but I guess you ordered already.

Anyways, I´m looking forward to your experiments.
I dare say you will end up with more tools than you thought if you keep on hanging around with us....

And as far as DLC goes, I could send you some Tool parts or watch cases to test ;-)

150, 200, probably fine, more than that might be iffy.

Looks like you are about to have the first ever DLC coated powerlock!  :D
