Is it worth it if I prefer the look of the stainless?

Sure, in that case I'd stick with stainless. Also easier to re-finish by hand after a scratch or a ding.

BO, while a true looker, it isn't a safe queen. Scratches, rubs and dings will all show much faster and more than on S/S but that also gives it a character.

Ideally you'd own both, funds permitting of course ;)

Once you decide on SS or BO and you finally get it in your hands you won't care about the one you didn't get because both are extremely good tools.

I don't have anything particular in mind, also I'm not very familiar with them, but a fixed phillips would be nice. It's a shame that to mod something in you usually need to take something out.

I can think of couple of options there, one affordable and another could end up being quite dear.

If you get the LM bit extender http://www.leatherman.com/131.html#start=5 you could an get one of the quality bit sets (Mitre10 and Bunnings currently sell some quality Irwin sets) and easily transform your 2D Phillips into a proper 3D.

The other option would be a little more costly where you could try installing Core or ST300 full size Phillips tool into the Surge handle.

Anyway you choose...happy days and happy modding!  ;)

Or like ducttapetech says:

Get a Surge and come to the Darkside.

I`m really happy with my (female :D) Surge, I work as a service technician and use it every day.

My biggest problem is the LM prices are horrible in my country and it's hard to have a look on the selected one.

e.g. : surge 250 $ wave 200 $ charge 300$

Welcome to the club, brother...pretty much all non-US coutries have the same issue when it comes with overblown multi tool pricing, and that's not just for Leatherman MTs.

I own close to 20 multi tools purchased over the last 16 or so years, and only the very first one my wife bought me on our honeymoon in Italy was the SAK Swiss Champ purchased in brick and mortar shop. All others were bought online mainly thru Amazon and eBay, usually at 1/3 of the price I would pay in NZ and previously in Cro for a particular model.

So my only suggestion to you would be - when it comes to sourcing of MTs, stick to online sources, most of those will have "for USA sale only" designation on their boxes but who cares really, these aren't life-or-death instruments, they're cool gizmos and contraptions most of us could live without anyway ;)

Cheers!

Hey babola

My biggest problem with ebay\amazon if i buy them with the shipping cost and if i order something abroad from the EU with the taxes it will cost around a same amount of money maybe 20 $ less or something.

Maybeeeee, one of these gentlemen in the us can disassemble one if you pay shipping and price of lm.  if a knife is prohibited in your country? Just nee 2(two) t-10 security bits to put it back together.

I can join this club  :multi:

Electrical Engineer working in a Manganese smelter. The tradies get a bit funny sometimes if you pull out any sort of tool and have a go (mostly jokingly) if they see the uninsulated kind, to which I reply I know what voltages I'm using it on

Wouldn't use it on anything live without testing for dead first.

Nice Surge!
Haven't  seen a sheath do that the first day! The only thing I can think of is get a scrap piece of leather and make a new loop. Or add a clip like on the back of a tape measure.

The Molle XL sheath made by leatherman may be an option as well - if you are willing to spend the money.

Thought about another piece of leather or webbing, but would need some rivets or posts to do it. Had the cord and gave it a go. You can see my rant on the sheath over at Leatherman website. Thought of getting the XL molle sheath but prefer the snap.

Some loctite or thread locker should sort that out.

I took longer than most members to join the Surge club but I finally joined.I am impressed with the fit and finish of this tool.

The only mod I made,in the short time I've possessed this tool, was to polish the plier head so the seam of the casting doesn't readily show.It does bother me a little bit that the plier head is cast rather than forged and I don't like to be reminded of this fact with the presence of that annoying seam.

Same here. Die casting pliers isn't cool but it shouldn't matter much as the LM pliers if and when they break they break at other places like the tip and the pivot point. It does keep the overall cost of production down, though.

Welcome tho the club.  :tu:

Been carrying my surge for about a month now. I was skeptical of utilizing the pocket clip on such a large lm, but it doesn't bother me one bit. Ive always carried my charge, wave, Gerber 600 and pocket knives in the same pocket, so maybe that's why its not something I had to get used to.
I loved the way ducttapetech customized his b.o. surge so I had to steal the mod :salute:
Now that Halloween past I found some acrylic green glowing paint that I really thought would have been awesome, but it was too watery. So had to go with the paint marker. Thanks for the idea Nate :D
