Raker ring tool. Four year update
on: December 18, 2013, 03:31:01 AM
I have had an MT.O Raker ring tool hanging in the barn for four years.  It averages 1 to 2 bales opened per day.  Never pampered, occasionally sharpened with a Victorinox sharpener, it just goes about its job, day after day, in the heat of the summer and the cold of the winter.

If you're thinking you might to try one, I say go for it.  I'm sure the CRKT version is good too.

Four years is good amount of time for that little guy, it sure could use some oil though. :pok:

Aside from the blade (hook) do you use any of the other tools?

The flat driver to adjust the Nelson automatic waterers.  Oil?  In a barn?  ;)

Expensive rust sounds really appropriate for me!!

May I ask if the original one (not CRKT one) comes with a sheath?

It would seem some of the posters have never been in a barn.    :)   I must have been born in one as I was asked that as a kid for leaving the door open.   :D

C'mon fellows!! Give me a rest, I was born a city boy and I'll proudly die as one.  :salute:

So... Just for clarification purposes, why is that such of an odd thing to have on a barn ?!  ???

IME it depends on your barn. At my parents there isn't any oil in sight, that's in the shed. The barn has straw, hay and wood in it.
At work, none of our barns have oil in, it's all in the workshop. The workshop is a barn that we store oil (and tractors and tools) in. The barns have, variously, straw, dry feed, grain etc.

That's not a barn. It's a workshop or tractor shed.  ;)

Lol, I had a good laugh with this. I worked ona farm and from what I saw, farmers never oil anything. So of course their is no oil in the barn. :)

Not on our farm :) things get greased, oiled and serviced regularly, unless the cow-men have anything to do with it.

I would think if I had a barn, I wouldn't want anything that could poison valuable stock stored next to the aforementioned stock. But hay, I am also a city denizen. So what do I know.  :D
