Sweet! I think the green and black scales would look sweet on the black one.

Oh boy, do I have a lot of catching up to do. Firstly, I finished that blackout Spartan I got from Syph and put some osage orange scales on it. I don't really see myself doing one of these again

I got this one in from a guy in UK, he attempted to make scales for this Compact out of this fancy MOP-type acrylic and messed up. I fixed them up and polished them

I spotted some vintage 84mm in the local ads and couldn't help but grab this one and do it for a great customer. Material is Australian horistes wood

I'm way behind on posting some stuff... Here's a 111mm Soldier with pine cone resin scales. The pine cone is a bit thicker than the one I used before, but I'm still very happy with how it came out.

I've been asked every now and then about why I don't do Wengers. The answer is very simple - Wengers have nested liners, and they require milling of the scale in order to get factory fitment. I've decided to this one by hand, much like I would the Victorinox models, and ended up taking about three times more time than I would with a Vic. The model is Wenger Swissbuck (quite rare) and the wood is thuya burl.

Great looking stuff as always Mile.

Seeing that 111 makes me want to get my GAK done up.

Hi MWDP - I remember reading this before.
But why not make the new wood scales just flush with the outer liner - Then you do not need to worry about the nesting.
I think that means the inner liners will be slightly longer than the scales - But not a big issue??

PS. Still loving your work  :)

The Wenger liners are smaller than the outside diameter or the tool. It would look ugly. :D

What about making them larger to match the size of the inner liners but just glue them to the outer liners without cutting the inside inlay out?

This is pretty much what I did - I didn't mill out the inside, but I made the scales larger to fit the outside frame. It doesn't look as neat and orderly as the factory scales, but I was already two months behind on this project, and I really wanted to finish it and ship it out. As I said, I don't see myself doing too many of these in the future, unless it's for a friend

I did a pictorial for some milled wooden scales 4 years ago. It requires a lot of work and you have to be careful not to break the thin rim. I messed up with the varnish though. Maybe I should do some more. ;)

Cybertool 34, Australian horistes. Sadly the blank was arranged in such a way that there was only one two-tone slice of wood.

Minichamp in toxic kirinite. First time doing with kirinite, and it seems like a less annoying acrylic.

The new Victorinox Delémont collection fixes this problem.
