My long term reviews of the Leatherman Rebar and ST 300

Well we have all enjoyed the month long reviews of tools here lately on MTO and I thought I should try something a little different.

We are going 6 months with this one.

I had fun with my OHT review but it was lacking seasonal testing that I can't do in a month.

By stating this review now I hope to expose both to all of what brutal winter and scalding summer can do.

All temperatures and conditions.  :)

I'm going to edc the ST300 to work and the Rebar for my after work weekend tool.

I thought Little Boy and Fat Man where to excellent names for two explosive Leatherman tools.



Every now and then I do have to dress up and on those rare days a large multitool on my belt wouldn't work. I also have a nice collection of tools that deserve my attention so I won't be able to carry these two exclusively for the next 6 months. I will try. If I do carry something different I'll show you what I'm carrying and why.  :)

This should be a good one.

Let's see how these two stand up after 6 months.

I'm inspecting closely now for flaws in fit/finish. I seen none in both tools.

Both are unused new black oxide coated tools.

All add pics of them tomorrow.

Sorry I didn't take any pics but I just accomplished my first task with the Leatherman Rebar. :)

The  door knob on my house was frozen Stiff this afternoon. It worked this morning. O well Rebar to the rescue.

I took out the two Phillips screws holding the knob in place and brought it inside to thaw.

I also removed the lock parts that are inside the door to warm up and dry

a half hour later I shook all the water I could out of it sprayed it down with wd40 and put it back together. Its working great now.

the rebar is a nice to to use. Comfortable and familiar feeling for a new tool.

I like it  :multi:

Look forward to your review to see if half inch, 3 oz makes a different between these two..

The complain I have on my "Fatman" is that when it is closed, there is no way for me to tell which one is the knife blade (unless I read the ruler's marking), so I painted the knife blade's finger groove red.

Fat Man got its first use this morning.

I used it to remove some rubber washers I had on some screws I painted the heads on



I also tool a pic of its blade next to the blade on a 91mm Vic.



the super tool has some super long tools. :D

I just used the plane edge blade to strip away insulation from a wire on a seat of jumper cables I was fixing. The blade cuts through insulation like warm butter.

on its first day fat man is impressive.

A Rock Solid  Tool built for real life work. :tu:

well here is a practical question - do you find the position of the blade limiting as opposed to the OHT or Vic tools since it opens from the inside?

its definitely not as fast to open as a outside opener.

the good part is the blade is safe and clean inside the st300

even if I drop it in the muck the blade should stay fairly clean

I always carry a oh knife of on kind or other so its not a huge issue.

Not often, but when you do, you can always use the blade while the handles open 180*.

I put the st 300 to no use so far today.

its -25 bellow with a -48 wind chill.

to cold to work outside.

its only lunch break we got a lot of day left but as long as nobody freezes up there water it should be a boring day.
