Well, end of the second week. As I'm sure you've all noticed there's not been a lot to report,as it's been quite a quiet week at work.

I'd mentioned that the small blade was very stiff, going on for a nail breaker. In truth,if you go the right way it's stiff, but not impossible,but...when your working, you don't necessarily have time to be that precise. I ended up just using the large blade :(

My basic findings for the Gunstock are these: The knife is good, but if your buying one, you'd do well to have a play with one in the shop. Mine qualifies as a fail, but at £12 it's not a big deal. And as far as actual fails go,it's not all that much of a fail,I'd still gladly slip it into my pocket. However, the a Peanut  is still the big winner so far.

Frustratingly,it's the China Buck next. Nothing wrong(yet) with the Buck, but I'm itching to get the Case into play :ahhh

Just skip the Buck and get the Case in there!  :pok:  Hopefully that Barlow will get to you in time to participate in this.  Along with the mystery of course....  ;)

Ok,so I have to start with a confession! The Buck didn't make it into this weeks carry,it got gazumpted by the Case! But in my defence, the (Jersey) Devil made me do it :pok:

So,Initial thoughts? I like it a lot! In terms of F and F its streets above all the other competitors! It's just...right? There's no joints in any way out of line, finish on the bolsters is exemplary, all the edges are nicely rounded,it just feels very natural in the hand.

While it's significantly heavier than the two Rough Riders, pocket carry hasn't been a burden,at least not yet! Kitchen duty was interesting. I'd decided the Spey blade was to be the clean one,and while it performed well,it did stumble a bit on halving the onion. I'll reverse roles, and report back. Having said that the elongated clip point excelled in box bashing, and both blades have a fantastic edge to them.

Photos will follow soon as photobucket lets me

I didn't have a chance earlier to comment on your remarks about the blade.  At work the clip is king, except for one important thing.  If I'm opening a box full of paint rollers, bags of rags, powdered stains, etc, the rounded tip of the spey is perfect in ensuring that what's in the box isn't damaged.  Breaking up boxes, cutting coupons, or even like today cutting a sausage roll at lunch, the clip is perfect.  My Trapper is sharpened at a 200 angle on my Lansky, and the CV takes a wicked, shaving sharp edge.  :tu:  I do like Case's Tru-sharp stainless as well, but their carbon is just awesome.

Having been on special duties today(Toy Fair), there was no need to break out any knives or MTs. I slipped the Case into my pocket, and took the XE6 along for the ride. If I'd have been a bit more focused on important stuff instead of work, I might have got snaps of them with Optimus Prime.

Anyway, the Case rode all day in my jeans without any discomfort, which pleased me no end :D

I was using the Spey blade at work yesterday and found it a better choice for box cutting duties than the clip point.

Overall,I'm very pleased with the Case :D

My week of testing the Case is over, and I'm very sad about it.

There's very little about the Case to fault. Its a thing of beauty to behold,a joy in the hand and...aww,you get the point. While I do have a few bits and bobs to say, they belong in he final round up of the test, when all knives have been through the mill.

This week we move on to the Buck 375 Deuce. The Deuce should have been on the okie last week, but got bumped by the Case.

I'd bought the 375 thinking it share the large blade of the 379 Solo. The Solo is only about 5mm longer, but that 5mm makes a lot of difference in the hand. I am a bit concerned about the small size of the Deuce, but well see how it goes. If it turns out that I feel there is a real risk of loosing the Deuce at work,or if the Deuce proves to be too small to use safely,I'll substitute it with my new 373 stockman,or Cadet.

As to the construction of the Deuce, here's the pix :D

Construction,FnF are generally good. The scales are wood, and well finished. They blend seamlessly into the bolsters. Snap on the blades is not up to Vic standards, but good. Only thing of real note is the spring on the small Warnie is much better than on the main blade. The one thing I really don't like is on the blades, and I hope this showed up in my pictures. Both tangs show signs of heavy working,as if the tangs wouldn't let the blades close cleanly. I checked my 305,but the tangs there are much, much better formed, and don't show the file work.

There's always the argument about US made verse China made, and aside from the tangs,to be honest I'd rate the China Buck more highly. There's NOTHING WHAT SO EVER to justify the extra £20 in price to have the American made Buck. Sorry, there just isn't!

Last thing to mention is construction related. The edges of the bolsters and scales have very clean ,sharp angles to them. The RR Peanut and the Case both have very nicely rounded edges, the RR Gunstock are less rounded, but still pleasing to the touch. I know that the large China Stockman I had could be a bruiser in the pocket, partially due to its weight, but also due to the edging in construction.
