The piranha 1 is not listed on Leatherman's web site anymore. :(

I prefer the original piranha design.

So the top one is the LM flat bit driver and the bottom one the 1/4? Why?

Being more versatile, it can drive LM's large selection of 2 dimensional bits in addition to normal hex bits.

Seen like the new added slot will hold the bits in place during usage, which is a improvement.

I didnt see that much improvement to warrant me picking one up, unless it was only about $15 bucks but not at $35.

I will stick with the original and the Croc (havent used it yet though) :D

SWEET! I was really hoping they would make the piranha compatible with the leatheran bits.

It will be mine. Oh yes, it will be mine.

I definitely have a concern with the new design; wasn't the nail puller in the S30V and 154CM versions dropped because it made the one box wrench too prone to breaking?  Isn't this just making the problem much more likely, with the flat bit driver and the loop-looking bit, than the nail puller on the original design?

Ugh.  I think I'll have to get one.   :-\

I broke an early generation PTX Piranha.  I fear that open wrench is going to suffer from this update.

That's my main fear as well. I think the early generation you broke was some über steel version though, to hard ==> crack.

I don't know if I like it or not.  I suppose I don't have any real issues with it, other than me being resistant to change, but I really do wonder if they haven't removed just a bit too much metal from the wrench end.

Either way I am looking forward to trying it out.

Is it also supposed to be a pocket dangler with the long cutout? Or is it just a tensioner to hold the bits in.   ???

I thought the same thing, but yeah, I think it is for holding the bit, not as a pocket clip.

The original Piranha didn't last long. I wonder how many they made of those before deciding to update the tool to version 2.

Bob, it would be handy to have a professional metal worker's opinion on this.  As a machinist, do you think there is enough metal there to stand up to regular use, or do you legitimately see that happening?

Truth be told, I don't know. There is certainly a potential weak point there, but the Piranha itself is short enough that it self-limits the amount of force that can be applied. Bottom line, we will just have to trust that the Leatherman engineers fully tested it before starting production.
