Cool Tool bicycle tool
« on: May 25, 2008, 02:45:01 am »
Anybody know any details about the Cool Tool? I remember seeing them sometime in the 1990's. Not being a bike rider, it didn't hold much appeal to me. That and it doesn't seem like a very clever design. :-\  GOOD: The hex wrenches fit into two holes in the tool, but BAD they fall right out unless held in place by a rubber band. GOOD: The wrench body is stainless steel, but BAD all of the other parts are easy-rusting carbon steel.

Anyhow, I'm trying to find out a little more about this tool. Some googling I've done suggests that the guys in the bike forums really like the Cool Tool. I don't know why though.

The regulars on bike forums must have been the only ones that held them in any regard.I recall seeing some listed in stock by some online vendors,as recently as a couple years ago.

I've had one for YEARS, and to my mind (rusting aside) it's still the best bike tool out there :)

Infact I wish they'd make an updated model :)

The hex bit attachments do look pretty poo though. :-\

Does it actually recommend to use an elastic band or is that just what Bob has found to work?

Ahh! That is something new. So what type of sheath did it come with? A belt sheath? Or just a pouch of some sort?

Gerber have pretty much one style of sheath that a lot of their tools come in i think is what Mike was trying to get at :)

Okay thanks!  :)

Now from what I've been able to piece together, Cool Tools were sold by Gerber (made in Taiwan) starting sometime in the late 1990's. Prior to that they were an independent company. There was even a titanium Cool Tool produced in the US.

In order to be certain of having the right tool for every job.........one must first acquire a lot of tools
