Looking for Key Chain tool
on: January 14, 2014, 08:08:57 PM
Hello, I been searching for a key chain tool which can offer function(s) my current set up doesn't have, and haven't find anything, any suggestions?

Attached photo is my current key set with EDC MT.

Any interest in keychain pens? There are a few designs out there.

Thanks but I don't think pen is a function I will need.
Don't need a USB drive either, I EDC a laptop for work.

The Wave is pretty complete as it is and with the bit kit its just that much more complete.  I got a gerber shard and love it but other than a small light or pen what do you feel is missing? Or what do you feel is lacking? Tweezers? Nail Clippers?  Some times just running with the gear you have and seeing if any potential situations arise is best IMO.

I am feeling pretty good about my current set up, just looking to buy more things.
Only thing that feel might be missing is wrench, pocket wrench II is nice but I think it is too long (4") to fit on keys.

Looking at the Swiss+tech Micro-Slim, maybe I break the wrench part off and add it to my keys?

Perhaps an Atwood tool, a Boker Toucan, Schrade keychain tool (they have at least two versions now), or a Victorinox Rambler?

Eventhrough I have no limit on my budget, Atwood is out of the question.
schrade key tool looks interesting, thanks.
Others don't offer anything more than Wave already does.

How about a mini WTF (Wrench That Fits), if they're still available?

A wave is a pretty complete package already. You could look into upgrading your light, I use a Quantum D2 which is incredibly nice. A small whistle which comes in handy much more often then you'd think. For wrenches, I'd pick a pocket wrench 2 over any other option and just carry it in the sheath of your wave.
Other than that, tweezers like Uncle Bill's Sliver Grippers or TT-Tweezers, a dangler like the GearPull/TT Capper/Kajin Hook/Munroe Dangler/Pickpocket.
A nice tritium keychain fob, there's many amazingly nice ones out there, just google em. Expensive though.

anti theft mode?

For a handy wrench/wrench adapter you could look at an EDC key screwdriver and a hex to 1/4' or 1/2' socket head adapter. Then you can use any socket head you need/want/find with your tools on hand

I was away on vacation for this, but you are still short wrench functions.  Since an Atwood is out of the question, I'm stunned that no one mentioned the very affordable PocketWrench II.  It is an excellent wrench, works on both metric and standard nuts/bolts and also gives you 1/4 bit driver, broad pry bar and 2 rulers.

Glad you found a solution however.  :)

How do you like the quantum?
So far I love it, it is crazy bright for a light such size and weight. <10 mins of run time (Max. output), but it is enough for its purpose. It heats up pretty fast too.

4" PWII is too long to go on keychain don't you think?
I forgot to mention there is also a Croc lives inside my iPhone pouch along with the file and long bit.
Will consider upgrading to a PWII in future.

My wife carries a Swisstool Spirit in her pocket.  The PW II is about the same length as an Alox Vic only much thinner.

No, not too big for pocket carry.  At least not in my Carhartt's or Levis.

To me, key chain carry not same as pocket carry.
4" is ok for pocket, but too long for key chain.

For wrenches, I'd pick a pocket wrench 2 over any other option and just carry it in the sheath of your wave.
While we are in agreement, I hope I\m not a nobody to you!  :(

You know your Surge is not on your keychain either right? Or atleast, I hope it's not.

I end up switched direction on the project, instead of looking for OPMT to go with Wave, I upgraded to Surge. More details, see -> http://forum.multitool.org/index.php?topic=49951.0
