My first through was a gauge, then my second is that it might not be for a saw- thread gauge?
yadda is right, a thread gauge, probably with a few job specific threads so you can easily tell one from another on the job site BEFORE you ruin the threads.

Nothing worse than screwing in "that stubborn bolt" into a cast aluminium engine case and finding out you used the wron thread pitch at the third turn... Ask me how I know.
