The Muckleburgh Collection
on: May 25, 2008, 03:44:14 PM
Whilst on holiday I visited a museum called 'The Muckleburgh Collection' which was recommended to me by Dunc.  The museum is based on an old military camp and has the largest collection of military tanks and vehicles in the UK, as well as many other interesting pieces of militaria.  Below are a few of the pictures that I took when I was there.

It was a great day out and I would certainly recommend it to anyone that gets a chance to go there.  :)

Nice!

It always amazes me how many folks aren't familiar with some of that equipment- Staghounds and Grizzly's were pretty common when I was growing up, but then I was a military brat.  I remember being confused at all the TV and movies etc when they showed red fire engines, since all the ones I'd seen were yellowy green!

Now that I am not surrounded by these things all the time, I find I really miss them.  Nothing like an ICBM to remind you of home I guess...

Thanks for posting those pictures!

Didn't get chance to go to Cromer, but I enjoyed Sheringham and Hunstanton.  I have a few pics of the coast at Sheringham that I'll post later.

The Doodlebug I think;

I had never actually seen one before and I was always interested in them after hearing stories about them from my Nan.

This was also a bit of an eye opener;

I guess things hit home more when they affect children.

  Centurions and Saladins....two of my favorite pieces of post war armor;I've got a feeling Centurions will be serving somewhere when the last Challenger is driven off to be put on display.
Did you get certified to be an Abbot driver? A few years ago,I saw some TV show,and there was a clip of an Abbot owner driving one around London...rush hour must be pure hell there.
