I had a quick look through it at first and thought the Spanish rations included condoms!

All that aside, it is still an interesting read.  I've often wondered about how each ration pack compared to the others.  I remember enjoying them when I was a kid.  Occasionally my father would bring some ration packs home from work (my father was military for those who don't know) and we would rip into them.  They weren't as fancy as the modern ones, but I remember the peanut butter in them was in a small tube, similar to a toothpaste tube.  It wasn't any specific brand, but I remember it being sweeter than normal peanut butter, and it was fantastic.  My brother and I would eat it right out of the tube and not bother putting it on the melba toast that came with it.

Modern MRE's seem quite extravagant compared to what we used to get though, and we thought that a three course meal in a box was pretty amazing back then.

Very cool read, its pretty sweet to see what each different country calls standard issue. Reflects back on the culture it comes from as well. I've had a couple of the modern MREs and they sure do come with a lot for such a small package. The calories and nutrients in them just goes to show what these men and women need to keep going each day. Good stuff Def! :salute:

The French issue looks the best to me. Less dehydrated food. In my day we had C-rations, not the MRE's. I never thought the C-rats were as bad as everyone made them out to be.

If this interests you, there's a website with more info.

http://www.mreinfo.com/

Majority of the website is about MREs, past and present, but there is some information about other countries' ration packs, too.  Even taste tests.
