We get those all the time for my husband. Some of them are actually pretty tasty.

I made the mistake of once making a spam and velveeta sandwich on a bagel. I thought i was going to die from sodium overload. :D

As much as I rip on Spam, it's actually pretty good fried. Just as long as i don't have to think about the nutritional info.
One thing in life that I have learned, is if you like something, never, and I mean never read the ingredients.

Btw Spam rulez!
Spam and eggs served with spam gravy with a nice hot steaming cup of spam.

I never really like jello, but once I found out what was in it I really never eat it. Makes hotdogs look good when you compare ingredients.

Na, it was fine.  It might not ever form a regular part of my diet or anything but I'll not be throwing the leftovers out either. :)

Yea, I understand that. I only eat spam maybe 2 times a month. I already eat food thats terrible for me so the Sodium rich Spam would not be the best food to eat constantly.

With all this Spam talk I got a craving for it so hopefully I have the can I think I do.

They have Spam Lite and Spam Less Sodium which is what I get since it's not so salty.

It's not precisely Spam, but Aldi sells a generic version just called 'luncheon meat'. I bought a can the other day, and had a double-take moment when looking at the 'best by' date.

2018

Isn't that like the sci-fi future? :D

I also know that 'best by' isn't even when food goes bad. Just when it starts losing flavor characteristics and some nutritional value. Since 'luncheon meat' isn't exactly chock full of vitamins, I don't expect it would be a huge thing to eat it years after its best by date.

Mmm.... 'Luncheon Meat'.

In our part of the world we have a porridge called polenta (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Polenta). The instant variety is cooked in 2 minutes which is good way to conserve fuel.  You can store it in plastic soda bottles and thus protect it from moisture. It is goes well together with different kinds of canned meat, so you probably could combine it with spam...  :D

Couscous/semolina also makes a good, quick base for a hot meal. :tu:

I'm a big fan of couscous for camping meals - uses a hell of a lot less gas than rice.
I put a vege stock cube in the water and add chopped pieces of bolied egg, tomato, fried onion, cubes of cheese....

I don't tend to eat a lot when hiking, especially in warmer weather. I usually have a sandwich and some cereal bars to graze on.

In cold weather, I do like to have a hot drink. Its usually hot chocolate or soup. I'm a fan of Heinz's soup in a tube, a condensed soup that just requires hot water.

That "tube" soup is interesting...maybe Gareth will like it with Spam  ::)

We don't have anything like that here...just dried stuff in packets.

I have to admit that I'd not come across them myself, though I am partial to a 'cup-a-soup' so I probably should check them out.  Nice one Milhouse.

Ya got hooked doing that in the forest service. We spent 4 days in 3 days off, water conservation was a must.
So figured I could kill two birds with one stone.

Oatmeal in coffee  that's a first for me.  A good ole PBnJ, protein bar, tuna in a pouch and crackers are some favorites.
