An intriguing Multi tool.... Paratool
on: March 08, 2014, 12:47:50 AM
I received this today...

I can't stop playing with the thing. It's stiff as a bull horn. Seems well made... Love the size.. interesting form factor tho... I feel like I'm playing with a chinese finger trap when I'm opening it. Very cool tho.. Gadget rating is off the charts...

Hey hey, nice to see another paratool owner!

Mine was very stiff too but it loosens up.  Its for sure an odd one, but I love the thing, and its very well made, one of SOGs best IMO.

Welcome to the club.

No you just need another in BO.

:D

And yes, the gadget/fiddle factor is through the roof. Especially if you start playing with adding parts or rearranging them.

I have three SOG's which I thought was enough, but I like the looks and design of this one! I just may have to add a Paratool to my collection!

Would oil or some lubricant help loosen it up? It's so tight it won't open fully.

My Paratool just got the ultimate compliment. Sitting adding WD-40 & working the tool to loosen it. My wife saw me fold the pliers & was fascinated. SHe asked to see it. I explianed how to open & close it. She pinched her hand.. which was educational for me... I saw how many complained about the tool pinching them. Guess God blessed me with too much common sense.... LOL.. But she thought it was the neatest MT she has seen... That in itself is amazing... MT's usually don't catch her eye.

I had a Paratool back when they first came out (late 80's or early 90's). It had the plastic formed sheath at that time. I never really warmed up to it, although I did mod it up with the optional saw and "shroud cutter". I don't regret letting it go; my Wave is a better tool.

The wave is a good tool. I have the first & second generation Waves. The first generation is my favorite. Although the creative form factor & size of the Paratool is very appealing.

My Paratool met it's Waterloo this afternoon. Running late this morning I grabbed it when I went by... The Clip on case was faster. Working on my Trailer I ran across a cable just like the one my FLIK snipped thru with no issues last week. The Paratool would open wide enough to cut it.  The paratool has been banished to the land of Light duty & no longer gets to attend take a multi tool to work day.

I like taking stuff apart. >:D Sometimes I even manage to put it back together again. :P

The PW2 and Chapmand get a bit more playtime in the second vid.

I'm not sure I understand what the problem was here. Should the sentence have been:"The Paratool wouldn't open wide enough to cut it." ?

Or did the cutters fail? I know they are very bad on cutting stranded wire, but quite a few multies regretfully have that weak spot.
