Good shot Doc Z. You doing surgery again with those tools?
Speaking of which, I think I've found the Kukri I want......the small heavy duty Condor.....and I might even have a way to source it
Toting the Blackjack Rio Grande Bowie around the farm today....hope to chop something with it. (Image removed from quote.)The Bowie is showing of it's mythical SEKI コブラスピリット (Cobra Spirit) finish......which means the guy on the buffer had too much Snake Wine at lunch... Not noticeable in reg light but in the oblique morning sunlight, it bristles with life!!!! This is rapidly becoming one of my fav fixed blades. Was so tired of smurfing around with the convex edge that I carefully re-profiled the edge with carbide and diamond /files till it was flat enough to stone. Finished it off on diamond stones and a few passes on the green strop to smooth the edge...it's scary sharp from tip to heel now. Took about a week of work but it was worth it and since I went slow, it looks great too
Thanks guys!!!! Here's best pic I can get of the edge (8X)...you can see my bumbing convex attempts above the new bevel. Visually it's a stark contrast but the surface is actually a smooth transition out to the edge. The front 3 inches required the most attention because the old grind was the thickest there.....

Would that be ' whatever it happens to be when I hold it to the stone', or do you have a well known angle you use that I just don't know about

Would that be ' whatever it happens to be when I hold it to the stone', or do you have a well known angle you use that I just don't know about Mostly freehand with the knife in one hand, the stone in the other, it's all intuitive so I have no idea but I can usually "feel" when its "right" before checking the results....kinda hard to explain. With the DC-4, sometimes I will set the angle based on the tips of my fingers sticking over the stone....sometimes not. Based on which knife it is, I just know how to do it....not a guess. On the flipside...if tired/sick or in pain, I can't hardly sharpen at all....my "sharpening sense" is messed up I guess.....
I didn't carry it as such, but I used the Mora Miki to break down some large cardboard boxes to make storage trays for freshly picked apples from one of my trees
tools and pic Z!
