I do far more kludging than actual modding (as a rule), but here goes:
The Solitaire LED and Mini LED (the 2xAAA one) use the same threading for the lens cap, and either use the same bulb or identically sized ones. The only problem is that the Solitaire threading starts way farther up towards the lens, so it can't screw far enough onto the Mini to shut the light off. It turns out, however, you can very easily solve this problem by breaking off the offending section with pliers. Seriously, I can't believe how straight I got it without even breaking out a file:
A shortened lens cap! Here it is, screwed far enough onto the body to activate the kill switch:
Activating the kill switch! This isn't very water resistant, which we can now solve through the magic of electrical tape (my favourite is the nice, thick 3M stuff). First, we wrap it fairly snugly, sticky-side out...
Not too tight, now. We still want to be able to turn this thing! Then a quick wrap around the same spot, sticky-side-in...
A la peanut butter saaaaaandwiches! It works very well. The only problem I can see is that I actually like the look of the regular Mini head. But sometimes just because you
can do something totally means you
should.
