Leatherman Pulse

Yes, I've done it again, and once again I don't seem to be able to stop taking.  This one is a full 10 minutes.

Again any views, opinions and constitutive criticisms are most welcome. :tu:

Great review!  I've always wondered why with all our members there weren't more video reviews.  Most excellent accent too, Thanks for posting.

No, if I had you'd not have seen the crud on the file. :D  The only real babying I do of my MTs is to give them a good wipe if they get something nasty on them.  Other than that, nothing.

Not sure.  I just tried it by opening Youtube without using the link here, and then searched for Gareth's video and it worked, so I guess it's related to the link from here.  I'm not knowledgeable enough in these matters to know either way though   I guess I will just have to open Youtube and search for any videos posted here that I care to watch.  No biggie.  Good review Gareth.  That Pulse looks nice and shiny

FWIW embedded videos do tend to behave differently than when viewing them on youtube. This isn't specific to mt.o, so don't fret about it (you know who you are... :)). To be on the safe side, you can press the small "YouTube" button on the video bar to watch it on the youtube site. I tend to blame flash and/or html5, but haven't had the time to pinpoint the culprit yet.

Another great review. The Pulse is actually one of those models I'd never had a good look at, and this review is almost as good as in-hand inspection.

If I had a nit-pick, maybe in the future, list weight, and maybe throw out another standard tool for scale?

And I ALSO prefer Gareth's accent to the fat Ameri... Hey, WAIT! :D

As a mid-westerner, I have an almost-no-accent-for-American accent. I have no idea what I sound like to non-Americans, but was told by someone from the deep South (of America) that I sounded like the people on TV. LOL

Great overview Gareth. I haven't seen a pulse in the flesh yet. Looks like a cool tool.

I agree re-the Blasts lack of clumping being great. It's my one niggle with my Rebar.

Great review Gareth and I agree with your comments about the fine flat driver. That space would have been better served as an Awl! While I like some things about the Pulse, I much prefer the PST/PST II. I kind of think of the Fuse as a weird continuation of the PST though it does lack some things. I wish LM still made the Fuse...  ::)

I might be one of the few, but I like the tool clumping. Way easier to get to the tools.

Tool clumping is one of those love/hate things. On some tools, it actually helps. On some, I just find it annoying. I think some of it is also how tightly they clump. I like that the blade on the Pulse doesn't seem to be involved in the clumping, which would be one of my major concerns.

I really liked the video, the only improvement would be to add a comparison of another tool.
It's nice to have a review that mentions all the required points, doesn't rattle on for ages, isn't shaky/blurry/gives you a headache, is done by a human and isn't completely opinionated.

That small screwdriver is obviously controversial. The standard Rebar driver is too big to fit in a lot of the small screws I use. My next mod (which I've done before, just not this one) is to grind it down, then maybe try and add a medium driver to fill the gap.

Cheers Tom.  I actually agree that the Rebar's small driver is a little too wide, or rather I think to tip is OK, but for some reason it tappers to the tip and so doesn't do well with recessed screws.  Hopeless at electrical connector block for example.  Much better is the one on the Fuse, Blast and Kick.  Of course you might be looking for one even smaller, but that's the one LM got just right for me.

Another excellent small screwdriver is the one on the Spirit IMO, much underrated in the list of the Spirits various merits. :)

I don't know how relevant this is, but the small driver on my PST II happens to be the right size for adjusting the sites on a pistol. This is a special case, I guess, but the VERY similar small driver on an old-version SOG PPP is too large for the job.

I THINK the Pulse's small driver is the same size as the one on the PST II. So while it might be a sort of special-use need, it does it quite well.
