Gerber Identification Please
on: March 30, 2014, 10:21:42 PM
Hello Fellow collectors, hoarders, OCD,

The flea was good this morning. Clear, warm, and two dealers had MTs for me (they claim I am the only buyer interested in old odd tools}. I got this Gerber, not a pretty tool. Die cast handles, blade marked Gerber USA. Tool is complete, I assume a late model in that the cutter blades are replaceable. What model do I have.

That's a sadly pretty rough MP700 Urban Legend.  A discontinued model.  Too bad, I'd love to get my hands on a new one......

We still have the 800 and it's a decent tool so why did they discontinue the 700?

I bet it will cleanup well, it does not look like it has any major issues a little wd40 and a Lansky sharpener can not fix.    :multi:

The only thing i see that might be an issue is the missing rubber handle inserts.  Even then that has no effect on useability at all.  Some oiling and sharpening, bit of steel wool, and that tool is 100% functional.

Thanks for the info and encouragement. Yes, while I did not know exactly what she was when I bought her this morning, I knew she was a keeper. Never put her back down on the table, paid the asking price w/o haggle. I will contact Gerber to inquire if they will replace the missing soft inserts. If not, I'll just remove the last one, for symmetry. All the tools are perfect, and the locks work smoothly. The wear just shows character, another model for my growing vice. What do I carry every day: a Marlboro PST.

The best in my opinion. Yes better than Leatherman and Victorinox.  :tu:
