It was pissingly cold, one of only 2 fish for last week but still my PB Galjoen ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Galjoen at 37cm
(Image removed from quote.)
9ft Daiwa Exceller rod, tiny Penn Fierce and 6kg Suffic 832 braid  8)
So much like.

Awesome setup, we run  Penn reels for all our salsmurfer setups, I think se are up to 22 of them.

And I run Suffix 832 on all my Freshwater stuff!

I've been told there's even better stuff on the market now, but Suffix 832 changed the way I fish for the better....
The rod-length casting leaders were/are a mess at best....

6kg braid is actually nasty-thin stuff, the fact I could cast a 3oz weight with bait in cold, wet conditions without cutting up my finger is amazing.

Went for a little hour fishing trip after the drive back from Atlanta this morning!

New setup (Shimano Curado 200HG on a Falcon Inshore 8' with Suffix 832 and a Spro frog in Killer Gill on at the moment) is awesome!!

Also got to use my recent backpack from SAKnight! Fits great! Really like the padding.

Unfortunely the lake was a bust, 2 tiny bass but I was kinda expecting it.

Did a little inshore. Didn't catch much other than some needle fish and hard tails. But the view was great

Can I play too?

Gerber Octane to the rescue!

Trust me to get the ugliest fish in the lake.   :ahhh

Nasty cancer on his face, which was terrible because it was a good sized, healthy looking fish otherwise.

Total accident too.  It was my first cast, and kind of half assed and next thing I know there's a fish on the line!

The Vaal is a different beast, I had 2 outings there several years ago with no luck, but I'm sure it presents many more opportunities than the Orange.
As soon as things heat up the fishing is over, and the floods leave so much sediment in the rapids the bugs are affected......meaning the fish simply feed somewhere else.
I did at least one trip per Winter since 2009 even when I wasn't living close by,  and 3 trips were a complete bust including this year.

IF my luck holds I can go Carp hunting with my 3WT coming weekend, haven't done that in way too long and really looking forward to it.

I wish!

I don't keep the Bass (Largemouth)

Most are caught in Golf Course ponds. I'd be eating everything they spray on the grass to make it look good.

The salsmurfer fish however are tasty!!

I've scouted out a few more kms of river and found a couple spots with trout feeding, just have to wait for the northwester to ease and I'm there.

Fished for 20 minutes today. Felt good to fish but I just wasn't in the mood. I think I'm just getting bored with freshwater fishing. Not to mention I have N.E.V.E.R. seen the lakes so stirred up. I mean less than 6" of visibility. Has to be from the rain. But dang I was not expecting all that
