Do any of you have these immense personal fishing challenges that are so hard yet you still try and try again?

For me this is bushveld smallscale yellowfish. I have never caught one on purpose.
They are endemic to a specific region in the east of the country and I get to go there for a few days of camping this weekend.
I'll have other distractions with mountain bikes as well as kids but lets see if I can get some river time in with the fly rod and hook one.
Very different to the usual smallmouth yellowfish on the Vaal River that I usually catch.

Yeah there is a local resident brown trout that I've spent many many hours trying to land.   :ahhh

Sounds like Muskie fishing. They call it the fish of 10,000 casts, and casting a 1 pound lure that many times for one fish tends to get tiring. I like to do it occasionally because of the thrill and novelty of catching one, but I usually stick to panfish. Little challenge catching large numbers of those!

I don't have any real challenging species. I've caught almost everything in the area, been here my whole life.

I guess I could say I've always wanted to catch a grouper on a live octopus. But that's more of a personal goal.

Went to the close pond today.

I've been talking with the SPRO representative on Facebook about adaptations and a gen. 2 rat design. I was itching to use it!

Some might be able to spot it. Just left of centre in the channel. No fishing gears with me today sadly.

Found this one in a dirty puddle. Relocated it to somewhere better. It'll be much happier there.

I am certain he is using some sort of signal to communicate with them...

Thanks bud, I have been very fortunate to spend some time on the water recently. Luckily the fish cooperate enough to stick around too

Friday May 20th, Pickeral season opens on the mighty Ottawa River. Luckily, I happen to have it booked off. I just came in from collecting dew worms from the lawn. Need to get minnows tomorrow.
