April Donation Draw
on: April 04, 2014, 12:51:41 AM
I'm not going to lie to you, I got nothing this month.

Actually, I am lying to you, because we do have something.  See what I did there?  I messed with your mind, and April Fools is well over.  But, that's the way of the world and you got to be tough to make it.  And, if you want to be tough, you have to have tough tools, and that's where this month's Donation Draw Prize comes in.  It's not just a tough tool, it's the Tough Tool.

This isn't your modern day "Justin Beiber Tough" tool that the company that thinks they are Schrade is cranking out- this is one of the old USA made ones, from back in the days when folks were expected to use their tools for something other than holding down napkins while you sip your latte at an outdoor bistro.

I know some folks like these and some folks don't, but I will say this for them- they have a loyal following like no other.  I get emails and phone calls from folks asking questions about tools all the time, and the number one tool I get asked about is the Schrade Tough Tool.  It seems folks have carried and used them for twenty years then either lost it, broke it, or just need it refurbished and I have to break the news to each and every one of them that the new ones are awful and they need to either find an old USA made one or buy something else entirely.

This example is in excellent condition, as you can see from the photos.  If you want it, the rules are simple and the same as every month- donate $10 to the operational fund for this forum and get entered into the draw.  If we don't hit our goal, we won't do the draw.  Each $10 donation you make gets you in the running.  Donations can be made by clicking the big orange Donation Button on the right, using the Donation link at the top or just following this link:

http://forum.multitool.org/index.php?action=treasury

I'll find some way to pick a winner at the beginning of next month and I'll post the results.  The winner will have 30 days to contact me or the prize will go back in the prize pool and we'll figure out some other way to give it away later on.  If we don't hit the goal, the same thing happens.

Oh yeah, and when you make your donation, make sure to take credit for it.  If you do it anonymously then I don't know who you are, and that makes it hard to pick your name.

Any questions?  Tough....

You were in before I even posted it!  :D

I'm glad they amuse you- I always try to give people their money's worth in amusement so even if they don't win they at least get a chuckle.  :D

And Bossman forgot that the tool isn't the only thing up for grabs, though both the extra bit - and bonus prize, if we meet the goal by whenever the cut-off date is, are both groovy too. ;)

It looks like an interesting tool.  I remember well your comments on the modern remake, I didnt know there was a decent older version though.

How can one tell the difference, is it the riveted plier head thats the sign of a good one?

I missed out on the good old version as well.  Didn't know Schrade was going to go under.  At least I have a nice stockman from them; I love that knife.

It is; the modern ones have fake rivets, though.  Basically, so long as it is stamped USA, you're fine.  The model has four(?) major US generations, with a couple variants for a couple of the generations, especially the serrations for the Gen 1 models.

And going back to the early fundraising bonus: I found something very cool today, so I strongly suggest we make it by the 15th.  If it doesn't, it'll be the donation draw prize next month, with Grant's OK.

How can Grant argue with an offer like that?

Just make sure you send him the bill for all of this... :D

I'm usually in before you post the draw prize. I really don't donate for the prize though I've won my share. Y'all need to know that if you want to win, YOU HAVE TO DONATE!¡!

I think people really donate to support the forum, not so much for the prize, and that is great.  However, the "I never win anything" mentality doesn't apply here really.  Usually we have about thirty entries, but at least half of those are multiples.  That means the odds of one in thirty are actually about one in twenty, which is amazing odds for any contest.  Of course if you donate twenty dollars then it becomes one in ten and so on.

I'm not sure I have ever seen regular contests with such great odds.

I make the occasional donation not for a chance at a prize, but to help the forum. I imagine most who donate do so for the same reason. :salute:

These (the Schrade Tool, a slippie and Coast AAA light) were in the mailbox :mail: when I came home last night from a weekend of shooting some cool guns (MP5, M14 just to name some). Thanks so much for this and the extras!¡!
