Gerber Steady, should I???
on: April 04, 2014, 01:17:20 PM
For some reason while sitting here working (getting paid to browse MTO), the Gerber Steady popped into my head.  That has me thinking, should I get one, and what's a good price for one?   Amazon.ca has it for $57.69 with free shipping.  Any cheaper spots to get one in Canada?

I know it's worthless for my DSLR, but thought it would work great with my phone.  Not sure if I'd end up carrying it or not though, so the price might be too steep for me to justify for how often I'd actually use it.

How many of us here have one, and actually carry/use it?

I got one from MEC although for the life of me I can't recall how much it cost.

I like it.   As a serious tool it leaved a lot to be desired but as a tool to keep in a camera bag or to bring along on a hike it's not a bad choice at all.

I have one but rarely use it. The actual mechanism supporting the camera is very weak and useful for light/balanced cameras only. It also has two blades which for a tool so limited is one too many.

There are some reviews of it in the forum with pictures.

I looked on the MEC website, but didn't see it there.  I imagine if they have it in store it would be about the same as the Amazon price.

I'd only be using it for my phone, nothing heavier.  Just thought for times when we're out with the kids on a walk or something, it could come in handy.

I'll have a look here for the reviews and to see some pics of it.

I agree, it is only for small, light cameras like various point and shoot cameras and camera phones, but then that's what it's made for.

I will say though, that it did good my Kodak z650, which is a large point and shoot.

I can heartily recommend the Steady.

It has that Gerber quirkiness that I like, and it is unique. It does a great job with small to medium sized point and shoot/compacts out there.

A little Leatherman information.

I just picked one up.  Quirky like Chako mentioned, but I used it last night to hold up a Pico projector while camping.  It was like an instant drive-in theater!

I like it!

Hmmmm, guess I have to keep an eye on eBay to see if I can snag one at a half decent price.
