I have both the RAT1 and 2; both are extremely comfortable to carry and to use. It's as if they were able to create the perfect fit for every hand! The blade steel holds up well and sharpens up quickly on my Tri-Angle sharpener. The carry easily and deploy quickly. I think we have a winner

I actually quite like the look of the RAT II, and they're available at a reasonable price too. They look well designed for general use, which a lot of "tactical" folders don't. I just don't have the need for one though, and have a surplus of folders already

"Extreme Edge Custom Kydex" makes some auto-opening kydex holsters for this knife I believe. You simply pull the knife straight out and it will lock and deploy the blade.

Thanks.  I'll have to check it out.

I'll be sharpening mine in my Spyderco Sharpmaker.  Any tips or tricks?  Which angle did you use?

The factory bevel seems fine on my Model 1's, I just touch up with the 40 degree and it gets razor sharp.
AUS8 is good that way.

I am starting to appreciate the 3 inch blade length for EDC and need to get me one of these.
Absolutely love the Rat Model 1 and if its half as nice it will still get a fair share of use.

  Dare I ask where South African'sh people could buy these?

You should be able to get one around $28.  I got mine for $27 shipped from http://stores.ebay.com/rnkcity/

I love the Rat 1 and 2.  In each case, you get a lot of knife for the money - at least in the Colonies.

It would be great if they came out with a model in between in size, a Rat 1.5 .

The original Randall logo is better yes.

The black one was bought locally from Safari and Outdoor, the Orange is a Knifeworks exclusive that I got from the USA.
R750 locally; R360 from the US.

The best tip I have is to follow the directions! Both these sharpeners are about idiot-proof...guess who could screw that up

There is also a Ganzo copy of this knife, which has 440C steel and a Benchmade-style lock.  Its around $18 shipped on Amazon Prime.  I have it, but the the Rat-1 is preferable as it is lighter and has somewhat better blade steel.  And its the real thing.

I actually just got that knife.  It's a Ganzo G727M.  It's a Rat-1 clone, but a tad bit shorter.  It does have an access lock.

Rat-1 is preferable as it is lighter and has somewhat better blade steel.

440C is noticeably better than AUS8; just cannot trust makers who slap labels on knives for purely marketing purposes.

We can assume the Ganzo is not 440C; no reason not to buy 8CR13 in China and treat it well. Label it as such and I'd be happy.
