Böker 182 (1915-1932)
on: April 10, 2014, 01:13:10 PM
Not exactly a mod, but thanks to my experience with mods I had the training to do this restauration, so I wanted to show it you it here.

Remove rust and cleaning of tool and springs, redone of the main blade rivet, tight all axes, readjust one scale, solder of the bolsters of the main blade, repair of blades with Lansky sharpener.

I didn't want to polish, remove patina or marks, I prefered a respectful restoration with the vintage look. Just live the knife ready for use again. I love this knife!

Yes, a very nice restauration. When I did the TL-29 restauration I did the same approach. Removing rust is ok, but polishing the patina away, would destroy the spirit of such an old knife. (and it would never be new again)

What a gorgeous knife! Great restoration job - thanks for showing us.

Did you reposition the bail? It looks like it should be opposite the main blade when it's open.

Either way, great job on a great knife.

Thanks for this sentence. My heart skipped a beat reading you used a ¾ century knife for modding!  :ahhh

But I really like your restauration  :tu:
(Is it a restauration if you resharpen the blade?  Let's not drift into academics here.).

Do you plan on using this knife again or is it just for the collection?

Thanks, guys. I really like it. I'm going to use it, but not for intensive works, I just want to enjoy it having a snack, maybe opening some bottles of wine, in short trips... thing like that. Nothing too hard. It will handle with a lot more, it's a strong tool, but this old lady deserves a golden retirement. ;)

I guess it's not the more respectful restoration if you resharp the knife. The main blade had a big nick, I had to reconstruct the edge. I thought in not touching anything, actually the old edge, sharpened along years with stones by hand, was very nice, but the knife was in so good general condition for a repair, that I decided to make it usable. A picture of the knife before restauration (it looks better than the actual condition).

Hi. No, the bail was like that. The only thing is that I believe in this old knives it's normal to find too small rivet heads, so the bail falls out. You can see a lot of knives without it. This one fell out just pulling it with no effort when I was removing it. So I did a bigger rivet, this one it's not going to fall.

It took me some time to find your restauration, very nice job. I didn't know about that TI-29 army kit. Very interesting, it's like a pre-multitool. :)

I like the tree emblem and the decoration on the bail - lovely attention to detail.

Are you going to use the knife or are you saving it for best?
