Not That SAK
on: April 10, 2014, 06:12:57 PM

Really interesting combo tool on this Spanish Army Knife. Never saw one like this, the combo tools on this thread are saw/file/bottle opener or saw/bottle opener.  http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,40784.25.html

Don't seem to be that expensive either. http://fusiongear.com.au/spanish-army-clasp-knife-p-193.html

Is the quality of the tool and the fit and finish any good? I think it may be worth a try.

That combo tool is the same as Aitor use on many of their folding knives so i guess is very likely they are the makers of that. As for the quality as far as i know they are a nice quality brand, their older knives are very good but i havent bought an aitor for a very long time and judging for the price i dont know if they are even made in spain anymore, so it might be a hit or miss if you buy it online.

Like that combo tool, and the fact the blade has a proper wire stripper. Vic's "wire stripper" is well...Lacking.

That looks like the Aitor Gran Capitan, model number 16003.

Aitor did a few interesting models based on the 108mm frame.

Christine on In The Army Now  (Paulie Shores girlfriend) used one to cut the sleeves off her shirt.

Don´t imagine the Aitor to be anything like the Vic/GAK 108. While comparable in length, the Aitor is much wider and thicker.
I do own one with a broken corkscrew, I´ll dig it out for a comparison pic.

As Lowtechs says, they are not like Vic/GaK 108mm. They are way heavier. You can see in this pictures an Aitor Gran Capitan and a Victorinox Pathfinder 108mm. I think the original army specifications defined a different knife. The multitool blade wasn't mean to be a wood saw, but a serrated blade for ropes and plastic materials. It is too short to use as a wood saw anyway.

The quality is not too bad, but is far from Victorinox. If you decide to try it, make sure you buy an Aitor. There are many lower quality knock-offs.

The older Aitor knifes were better than the current ones (Aitor-Pielcu). Now you can find civil models with liner locks and different scales:

Thanks for the nice comparison pictures.

I'm just in the process of updating the Aitor page we have on the SAKwiki.

Discussion: http://forum.multitool.org/index.php/topic,51921.0.html

Aitor page: http://www.sakwiki.com/tiki-index.php?page=Aitor

Please take a look there and let me know if you see anything that needs correcting. :salute:

Hi enki_ck, Aitor section on SAKwiki looks right to me. I will be glad to help if you want to expand t in the future. Thanks for the SAKwiki.

WWW iIf you are interested in that kind of combo tool, AITOR made different versions. Like this Aitor Galax Nato

This was the original 1979 specification from Spanish Army

You can see it wasn't supposed to be a wood saw but a rope cutter.
to make something like this:

"Teh sewing eye is almost much higher on the tool, close to the tip."

Might want to fix tihs on the SAKWiki page

Also "The corkscrew appears to have a tighter twist and still appear to be fluted." I think should read "The corkscrew appears to have a tighter twist and to be fluted."

And I am usually the worst proofreader!

I just got 2 Aitor Gran “SAKs”
