Pelican Nemo 1960 LED
on: April 11, 2014, 06:07:29 PM
I picked up this little guy yesterday while waiting for my wife.  I know I have lots of lights already but none that are protected against more than rain or the occasional splash.  I figured I'd like something I can take snorkeling and this one was listed as a dive light.   I figured for under $25 it was worth a shot.

Ordinarily I don't like twisty lights and this is no exception but I'll tolerate it.   I like how the head is glow in the dark.

The water here is a bit cold yet to try snorkeling but I'll be sure to report back as it sees some use.

Not really exciting specs, but not bad either.

Am I missing something? 2x AAA, 24 Lumens, and only 3 hours run time? That seems rather short to me for some reason.

That said, I'm going on the hunt for one! Been a Pelican user for over 20 years and have never been disappointed with their products. A yellow waterproof flashlight might just match my Spyderco Salt with yellow handle. And who doesn't love GITD stuff?... :)

I don't own a dive light and I really should.

my quark 2aa turbo does alot of swimming. To much.

I know it spent more than a couple hours submerged in water last winter.

it still does work excellent but I really should buy a light made for being under water.

nice little light grant

you got me thinking.

I must have left the head partially turned the first night I had it as the next day I tried it and the batteries were dead.  There was no light coming out of it that I could see.

For less than $25 though, this actually does seem like a good light- provided it doesn't need a new set of batteries every bloody time I try to use it.

No, the head on mine is GITD.  That's worth the extra $20.  :P

I've seen pictures of where you dive- you shouldn't need a light there!

Yeah, it's not very efficient.  The more efficient AAA lights will get that runtime/output on one cell.

It would appear that this is not a backup light- or at least not a very effective one.  This one is a "put batteries in it when you need it then take them out when  you are done" kind of light.  It seems to leech energy even when (supposedly) unscrewed and locked out.  I have now killed two sets of batteries with it and haven't done more than just play with it and leave it in the Jeep as a backup for the Defender that lives in my work vest.

Arrived today.
Uses a generic looking 0.5W LED.
Has a phosphor dot. As bright as expected.

What is with the Chinese obsession of just taking random words, putting "Fire" on the end and calling it a flashlight?

There's gotta be something I'm missing in translation here.

Torch = fire?  ???

It works for me, I pretty much steer clear of any flashlight or battery that has "fire" at the end of the name, unless it is preceded by "Sure".  :D  I'm sure that had something to do with it also--attempting to play off the success of Surefire.

Ultrafire, Letterfire, Trustfire, Fifire, Fandyfire, Kinfire, Godfire, Richfire, Singfire

The "fire" bit isn't weird, it's what precedes it.

Hey Def.  I got the same light (MEC?).  I put a warming film and diffusion film in there to improve tint and make it floody.   It was for the wife.  Simple.  Bulletproof. I actually changed the oring for a thinner one for smoother action. It's bit hitting much water so I figured no big deal.  I didn't notice any drain issues but I'll check tonight.  Maybe you have a dud?  The way the "switch" works you shouldn't have any drain.
