The Wife is starting to UNDERSTAND MT's!
on: April 11, 2014, 10:47:49 PM
I have always used tools (including pocket knives) and have them around but in the past year or so (thanks to this forum!) I have picked up a number of MT's and SAK's. I passed a couple of small ones to my wife to "keep in her desk" figuring she would be more apt to understand the advantages of EDC if she had one available when needed.

She has mentioned that while at work she used her C&C MT for one task or another. Things like general screw tightening, staple removal and bottle opening. So, the plan is working! Each time she tells me about this she seems more excited than the last and she even calls one of them "Little Knife."   :tu:

But, every time she tells me about her MT success I always say -

"Pics or it didn't happen!"    :D

Slow and steady. Every time she uses it it probably registers in her mind that this thing is useful. Maybe my husband isn't crazy.  :D

My wife is a happy MT user.  Mostly a few SAKs, but also a Gerber Dime that I gave her.  Not quite the fan that I am, but she does get the fact that they are useful things. :)

It took me a while to convince my husband that all my MTs have a point, but while we have a fair number of tools at the house, every now and then, we're caught away from the house in need of something, which I almost always have.

He also now has TWO MTs: A Micra on his keychain, and a Gerber Mini Suspension P, which he keeps on the stand next to his comfy chair, so when he's sitting around in pajamas or shorts, he doesn't have to get up to get his Micra.

I wonder if there is a couple somewhere who BOTH realized this at the same instant?

It does seem that since "opposites attract" one of the two gets it first. Although some of y'all are multi-generational MT users.

My Dad (and his Dad) were certainly tool users but my Dad only carried a simple friction folder. The trunk of his car was his EDC!

I think it great she is getting use from her tools.  I got my roommate started immediately with a LM CS4 but she already had a Classic SD that saw some office work.  It's neat that RT1969 and SweetySama are a couple and members here on MTo.

I think the first step is to either attach a small SAK to their keys or have them slip a small MT in their purse.  They will find the need it's really about having the tool on hand.

It's my wife's fault I'm modding and collecting SAKs ::)

She stole my old Spartan so I had to get a new one. Found this place when I couldn't get exactly what I wanted and worked out that you could build your own.

She's very happy with the Climber I built for her out of the spare bits from a Yeoman, and is eyeing up my little Cadet too. :tu:

Yes, I got her "Vicky" for her birthday in 2013. As expected she loved the scales and that it has an engraving of her name.
And over time she realised, that it is pretty useful.
Now she wants a 'real' SAK for her birthday  :D

And one day she posted here without saying anything to me beforehand  :ahhh :ahhh :ahhh

She hears about MTO regularly and was very impressed with how my first SAK mod turned out since she saw the process over several months of collecting, disassembly, reassembly and the TA-DAH moment!

I told her she should join here but she is deep into other stuff right now such as organic foods, gluten free and grandkids on FB.

Based on a comment she had today I do have a good idea for her next gift but I shall remain mum just in case.

This is not always a good thing... Next she'll be standing beside you when you get mail. The female of the species is highly adaptable. Mrs. D is apt to commandeer any MT she takes a liking to. Just sayin...

Tricky situation methinks:

Bob: "Darling where's my 25th anniversary charge?"

Bob's Wife: "It's where you left it!"

We were both MacGyver fans and we recently watched an old episode and SHE noticed his use of a SAK, although you could not tell which.

She's Keeper for sure!

My Mrs has taken a liking to MTs since I got her a Flair and emerald MiniChamp. She is always asking me for my MT when she needs one. My response, "where's your Flair or MiniChamp?" Her answer, "somewhere in my purse and I don't feel like looking for it." I just  as she bats her eyes at me.

Technically, a lady's purse IS a Multi-Tool and EDC bag. The problem usually comes down to the organization there of.

I found out the other day that my wife now hangs her Style CS on the inside of her purse.

I'm so proud.   :D

I've gotten my wife two Classics, one she keeps in her purse, and the other on the counter in the kitchen.  She doesn't use them often, and most times she asks for mine as she knows I always have one on me.  Her primary need is almost always scissors.

She has come around over time, and admits to the usefulness of MTs/SAKs.  However, she does not find it necessary to have several of each, and thinks one should be sufficient.  Although I think she likes the idea of one in each of our vehicles, but I have more than that in my collection ;)
