My Charge Had A Baby
on: April 13, 2014, 09:40:44 AM
I swapped my Dime out for my Squirt to start testing that (it's already had a bit of rough use) and I realised it had the same colour scheme as my Charge. It made a nice pic so I thought I'd share it.

I heard a lot of people having trouble with the scissors on those breaking. Otherwise I'd like one too...

As with any of this kind of stuff, they are tiny scissors so they have to be used within their limitations.

I did test them out in the weekend cutting a bunch of thick card, cloth, cable ties, a little bit of wire etc to see how they'd go. That's not what they were designed for but they were fine.

I've had a couple ps4 since they came out and I think the newer ones are built better than they where at first.

the blue one I have now little scissors cut very well.  The first were sloppy and lose.

I can buy that... that they've improved in quality recently. So, I'm adding this to my to-buy list now.

Thanks! :D

Awesome

I know you will like it Steve. They really are way better now than they were when they first came out.

my first ps4 was junk. My last ps4 is a much better tool.

now I'm really hoping you get a good one so I don't have to eat my words.

My PS4 is excellent. The scissors are identical in cutting ability to a brand new 58mm SAK. I've had it for some time now, with no problem with the spring breaking, but I honestly don't use it much. I assume it's the flexing/releasing tension repeatedly on the spring that eventually leads to breakage, so I haven't got a lot of hours in using it.

There is a very tiny amount of play in the plier head, probably because i cut 12-gauge wire with it a few times, and the play is barely noticeable, unless you're really looking for it.

As with JA, I hope you like the one you get, sawman. I really like the tool quite a lot. It just doesn't meet my everyday needs very well.

I'm surprised how sturdy the pliers are. They feel flimsy but are very capable.

I used them to pull a 7mm rifle bullet from a case (as a test). It was so stuck in there I had to get one set of pliers on the brass, then the PS4 on the bullet, and really crank and twist hard until I could get it out.

The projectile had so much friction on it it was hot to the touch afterwards. It was very impressive.

---

I do have to say the thing I don't like about it is the piddly little phillips driver. I have already damaged it working on some fairly small (at least in terms of building things) screws doing some fairly minor work.

Overall it's been very useful so far.

My PS4 is back for warranty for the second time in about 12 months, first the blade pivot loosened and the blade was all floppy and wouldn't stay closed, they sent me out a brand new one, then just last week the scissors loosened up cutting a piece of paracord... I realise I was probably pushing the boundaries cutting paracord with such tiny scissors, but hey this is how we test the limits of our gear! Or is that just me... Anyway, I still love the PS4 for being so useful for such small package! :tu:

Well so far I'm very impressed with my PS4. It has been used to twist and pull bullets out of cases, cut through lots of thick cardboard, cut lots of cable ties. I've already damaged the screwdriver by getting carried away with it.

I can imagine anything of this size lasting with this sort of use... But I have a spare one in the cupboard in case this breaks.

It had handled about 80% of my multitool needs... With the wave having to pick UK the slack a few times.

The scissor spring on Mrs. Powernoodle's PS4 broke under very limited usage.  But I still love the PS4, and it is probably my favorite MT.  There are at least 6 of them at the Powernoodle Compound.

The scissors are identical in cutting ability to a brand new 58mm SAK.

I would characterize the scissors on the 58mm SAK as much more precise, when trimming up skin scrapes and boo boos and that kind of thing, you know?

I found the scissors on the P4 to be a little more blunt/thicker than those on a 58mm SAK. Otherwise, they seem like perfectly capable cutters but I didn't test them extensively.

The file is the main reason I don't carry mine. It's unsuitable for fingernails. :td:
