With the snowstorm and other bad weather we've had lately I wasn't expecting to be in the water this soon, but I can tell you I was sooooo freakin happy to see how nice the weather was going to be today. I decided a few days ago that if today was going to be as nice a day as they were forecasting, then nothing was going to stop me from getting the boat out.
Fortunately, it was every bit as nice as they said it would be.
I figured my first trip of the year should be an easy one so I decided to do the Deep Cut section of the Shubie Canal, which is the spot that I probably do at least 80% of my kayaking in. I figured I'd head out and if I felt energetic I'd consider paddling on the lake too.
While not totally green yet, the Deep Cut is still one of the most beautiful places to kayak. When I got to the end I didn't feel like turning around just yet.
Lake Charles is about 4 kilometers long, so it's a good paddle any time. I figured I would head out and see how I felt- I was the only person on the water, so if I felt like I was hitting the wall I could turn back at any time.
Once I had gotten out there the lake was so perfect and so calm that before I knew it I was almost at the end. As you can see I was having a great time.
I probably shouldn't have gone as far as I did on my first outing, but with a lake that looks like this, how could you not?
I had a great time, but now I'm exhausted and my shoulders hurt. And I couldn't be happier about it!
