First kayak trip of 2014!
on: April 13, 2014, 11:28:34 PM
With the snowstorm and other bad weather we've had lately I wasn't expecting to be in the water this soon, but I can tell you I was sooooo freakin happy to see how nice the weather was going to be today.  I decided a few days ago that if today was going to be as nice a day as they were forecasting, then nothing was going to stop me from getting the boat out.

Fortunately, it was every bit as nice as they said it would be.

I figured my first trip of the year should be an easy one so I decided to do the Deep Cut section of the Shubie Canal, which is the spot that I probably do at least 80% of my kayaking in.  I figured I'd head out and if I felt energetic I'd consider paddling on the lake too.

While not totally green yet, the Deep Cut is still one of the most beautiful places to kayak.  When I got to the end I didn't feel like turning around just yet.

Lake Charles is about 4 kilometers long, so it's a good paddle any time.  I figured I would head out and see how I felt- I was the only person on the water, so if I felt like I was hitting the wall I could turn back at any time.

Once I had gotten out there the lake was so perfect and so calm that before I knew it I was almost at the end.  As you can see I was having a great time.

I probably shouldn't have gone as far as I did on my first outing, but with a lake that looks like this, how could you not?  :D

I had a great time, but now I'm exhausted and my shoulders hurt.  And I couldn't be happier about it!

It was a great day. I also decided to torment my father a bit and I video called him from the middle of the lake.

Yeah I was amazed as well.  I don't think I've ever seen that lake that calm before and I've paddled on it a lot.

Considering the video I watched not long ago of the crazy storm you posted this day looks incredible.  Must have been nice to have to lake to yourself glad you got out and had great time.

Yeah I figured after that storm my kayaking season would get a late start. You have no idea how thrilled I was too be out on the lake already!
