Under a blood moon

Sorry these won't be the best pictures. I only have a digital camera, and repeated attempts to improve the picture have led to naught.

Here's the moon tonight. 10PM EST U.S.


I'll post a few more pics if they're worth it as the lunar eclipse happens. Hopefully it'll be enough for folks to get an idea of how it looks. If anyone gets BETTER picks, and that wouldn't be hard, feel free to post them here.

I just went out and saw it on the west coast. Is it supposed to get more red?

I don't think it'll be fantastically red, no.

So... sorry for the blurry pics. I have no tripod or way to click the shutter on my camera without holding it so...

Here it is about 50% eclipsed.


And here, only about a quarter remains.


And, sad to say, those are probably the two best.

Still, I had fun sitting on my deck, wrapped in my coat, listening to my iphone, and watching it all happen. It was almost freezing out, and the sky was just about perfectly clear.

I woke up the hubby once it was fully eclipsed for him to get a look. He was very slightly more than utterly apathetic about it, which means he must have really been interested. He doesn't exactly emote.

Now, where is Kokkolis when you need him? 
That must have looked great - I only gazed at a full moon yesterday hanging beautifully between a few clouds and branches.
