A couple here have done it. Will have to find them.

Seen them, not a solution that I like to pursuit.

I like what I see here. My only problem with the Surge is its size/weight but this makes it all possible. I am curious though, what about a coupler for removable file/saw?

I have been watching eBay for some beater Surges specifically so that I can try fitting the blade exchanger into a Wave. :D

I know it's been done before (by Metro), but I still want to see if I can pull it off. I also plan on trying to fit the Surge scissors in a Wave since I think they're superior to the Wingman scissors.

Beautiful work. Leatherman really should make this tool.

I'd rather have the file than the wood saw though...

What do you need the file for? Wood saw isn't something I need often, but when I do, nothing can do what a saw does.

I like to file sharp edges off of wood, plastic, metal etc., on occasion.

Now the file can be used on the blade, that is a big win for me. That Mini Surge is getting better and better.  :salute:

Thanks, that is a good point, but I EDC a Mini-Tactical (see my sig below) , so won't be needing a diamond file.

Kampfer was nice enough to lend me the only existing Mini Surge for a video review comparing it to the big brother surge and the Wave it's built around.  I have to say Breezy12 does excellent work.  not only were the new tools added but the Mini Surge has been polished up and all the joints work much more smoothly than the original wave.

Enjoy the video guys!!!

I agree!  I LOVE the Surge, it is my favorite, but it stays in a MOLLE sheath on my bag, and the Charge is on the hip.  if they made the
Charge TSm (Titanium, Surge mini)  I would be all over it!
If I can help, let me know

just got done watching the full video review, and I'm really glad to see that someone besides Kampfer and myself love this tool! :D

I agree with you, I mean what were they thinking with the wave scissors!  the beefy Wingman scissors fit right in there.

AWESOME! What's the story on the file?

The file was taken off from Wave during creation of Mini-Surge, I do like to have diamond file for sharpen knives in a pinch, ....

I removed the lanyard ring long ago, there is just a empty slot there.... ???

Got it! :2tu:

To sum up: Many hours of brainstorming, creating concept art, measuring and dremel works.  >:D

Awesome work! Question for ya... Is the woodsaw on the wave replaceable with the wingman scissors? Or would it have to be the file? Also, you removed the lanyard ring and put the file there, but does it actually fold in? I can't imagine there's room inside.

Lastly, how on earth did you manage to modify that belt clip to hold bits? That's awesome!!

First of all, welcome to MT.O
Yes, you can replace the wood saw with wingman scissors. It was my choice to replace the file.
No, the file doesn't fold in like other tools, it has to be store and carry separately. Attach to tool when it is needed.
The attach method is exactly same as the pocket clip, I cut the file to the same outline of the clip then thinned it out just enough to insert into the slot. It locks up rock solidly.
Those 5/32" torx bits are for adjusting screws on knives. It doesn't require lots force to turn them, squzze the clip while turning will do the trick.

PS: would you rather carry the saw (sharp & pointy) separately or the file? And the detached file can use to sharpen Mini-Surge's own blade ;  a detached saw is useless.

really cool stuff, Kampfer! :tu:

I love what you did with the file, and I agree with you that it is best to have the file carried separately (rather than the saw) so that you can use the diamond file to touch up the blade if needed.

for what it's worth, it's actually easier to replace the wood saw with the Wingman scissors. I had to move the saw into the spot where the file was originally located to get the scissors in the proper orientation. ;)

out of curiosity, how much thinning was required on the file? looks like it wouldn't need much...
